    doc type

    bejerps
Have just downloaded a trial version of CS3.

When choosing a template I have to select a doc type.

My coding skills are v limited - use editor mainly.

Any advice on best type to choose and info on differences between HTML & XHTML plus transitional & strict.

      Thanks in advance

I always write new sites in HTML 4.01 Strict. XHTML isn't really useful
yet, and Transitional doesn't make sense, because on a new site you are
not transitioning from anything. You should write proper and clean code
right from the beginning -> Strict.

Standards Mode = strict (ok to use).
Almost Standards Mode = transitional (ok to use).
Quirks Mode = no doc type declared (do not use).

Use the document type that fits your coding skills. If you use table-based
layouts to hold image slices, you'll have a slightly easier time of it with
            HTML 4.01 transitional.

For more info on browser behavior with the various doc types, scroll down a
bit to the table on this page www.hsivonen.iki.fi/doctype/
