    Dip To Black jitter

    PnoT00

I've imported a video from my MotionPro HD camera which is 720P and set the project up accordingly.  My issue is whenever i put a dip to black it jitters, or studders, when going to and from black.  I've tried several things to alleviate the problem but no such luck.  I have seen posts where the bitrate was too low to accomplish the dip but my source video is 15mbs so that seems to be way above what others had.  I have tried to change the dip length as well with no luck.

      *Edit*

Dip to black works flawless if i cut a video and insert the transition but if i have 2 different video segments that are in different spots in my timeline and put them together with a dip to black between them it fails and jitters.  I hope I'm explaining this properly.

I'm using CS4 with the latest updates available.  I looked the link you provided and I don't see any of the zig zag patterns like that.

Do you have adequate Handles on your Clips? If not, you will have issues. Because of this line:

Dip to black works flawless if i cut a video and insert the transition but if i have 2 different video segments that are in different spots in my timeline and put them together with a dip to black between them it fails and jitters.

This will give you some background on Handles:

              Good luck,

PS - also, is there a red line above the Clips and Transitions? If so, does it look better, when you press Enter, to Render?

I'm not really sure how to look for this in my video but i never get a warning saying that frames are being repeated.

I always render the effects before previewing it.

OK, what CODEC is used by the MotionPro? Could be a GOP issue, and when you are Trimming the Clips, you are having issues.

                  What is your Project/Sequence setting?

                  Good luck,

I played around with this for about 4 hours yesterday and still nothing.  Any tips fellas?

I figured coming to the forums would provide some feedback that would lead to a resolution but that didn't happen.  I tinkered around with the problem for a long while and found solution that "works" but isn't optimal.

Instead of inserting a dip to black inbetween 2 cuts i spaced the cuts out 1 second apart and applied a 1s dip to black on the end of the first cut and the beginning of the 2nd cut.  The studder/jitter is gone and the net result is 3 seconds of fade which i was shooting for to begin with.

Since i replaced the entire audio track things came out pretty smooth.

I still don't understand why this happens and I can't believe there are not more users that have ran across this problem.

I strongly recommend that you add Black Video to that gap, as they can cause all sorts of issues, especially with Export/Transcode. You can create your Black Video, and then set its Duration down to the Frame-level.

                          Good luck,

I wound up pulling the gap closed but keeping the 2 seperate dip to black transitions and it's working beautifully.

Great news! Thanks for reporting. I just did not want you to start getting "Failure to Return Frame," or other Transcoding errors, when you go to Export.
