    premier pro cs4 total breakdown

    wild_dog101 Level 1

well, i can pritty much sai i am screwed.

premier pro crashes as soon as i try to start (doesn't even show the splash screen)

and wen i want to reinstal it by means of deinstaling ore repairing using the setup, the setup crashes.

the deinstalation setup emedietly crashes when i start it.

and the normal setup does the system profil scan, but as soon as the setup opens that screen closes again.

i tryed evry thing: new account, registery cleaning, font deinstalation ect. ect.

i even used system restore to go back to a point wear it still worked.

Apart from hardware failure that causes this, it may be time to go for a complete fresh install of OS & programs. But first check that you do not have hardware problems, like voltage, temps, memory or disk failure.

hardwear faliur? i am experiencing no such thing whit anny other program.

and a complete OS re-instal is no option cos i don't have a windows vista disk (vista was already installed when i got it).

just to geve u a picture of what is going on:

i had a problem that premier pro would crash if i loaded a secuence (no idea how that was possible).

wen i wanted to repair premier pro i found out that, for some reason the setup wouldn't run and i wasn't able to uninstal/repair premier pro.

so then i manualy removed all files of premier pro from the C drive ands did clean whit the CS4 clean script.

after that, i did a registery cleanup in the hope that the installer would work again.

becaus it didn't, i used system restore to restore the pc to a point wear i didn't encounter problems whit premier pro.

but after that, the only deference was that it crashed even befoe the spalch screen.

You have probably corrupted your registry in such a way that the only sensible solution is to do a fresh install of everything. Use the restore program that your PC came with to restore factory settings. A system restore will not work correctly as you noticed since messing with the registry causes all kind of strange problems.

i was required to make a backup cd on the first setup if that is what u mean.

wel... better make a backup of all installer programs and safe files then.

Unfortunately the crash log doesn't show much, but strlen() is a standard lib function.  If that's crashing, something with your MS runtime libraries are

really (!) screwed up.  I'd agree with Harm, at this point, you'll find doing a fresh OS install the most expedient thing to get things back to normal.

what he said, and also realize that cs4 is completly buggy worthlessness. How adobe avoided a class action lawsuit i dont even know. If your system works fine othewise, then you could always create a virtual machine and test the software on that. I installed cs4 on a fresh copy of windows 7 and it wouldnt start until i deleted premiere/mediaio/writer/cnnnativewriterwmv, and even still it crashes if i try to export something. We're now two years into its release and still no one knows how to make premiere work.

Actually, I think that you have the stats totally backward. While some artistic license might be acceptable, I feel that you are twisting things to try and make your point.

About the only people having trouble with CS4.2 are people trying to use it on vastly underpowered machines, or people, who are unaware of how an NLE, in general, and PrPro in particular, works. Or, they are trying to edit material that is delivery-only and never intended to be edited.

If you cannot get it to run, I would first look at the system, then the Assets, then the Project Presets and then at the strong possibility of OE.

                        Good luck,

i don't know if i have mentiond it befor but i don't have a cd containing the vista OS.

the only thing close to that wich i have is a backup CD made just after the first setup.

if i would use that, than i would lose a lod of data.

on a other note: i did a MANUAL removal of all files in the CS4 folder, after wich i ran the CS4 clean script.

and when i used the system restore afterwords it sayd that non of my documents wear affected.

isn't it possible that the reasen premier pro doesn't work that some of its files are missing?

if that is the case, i could do a repair from the setup, if it was not that the setup also craches when i try to use it.

and that is also a reason i realy don't want to use that CD, cos i dont know if the setup will work after i use it

i also found a file named setupcach.ben, wich thear wasn't when i unpacked them (i think)

anny boddy knows what this all means?

Maybe apart from a .PST or .OST file and some favorites, there is not much on your C drive that needs to be saved. You can easily copy those files to your DEDICATED drive, install your backup and copy the saved files back. Unless you have sinned and did not use the C drive only for OS & programs, in which case installing your backup is even more desirable.

i recal it was a backup of my ENTIRE laptop

so using it wil not only whipe my C, but also my D and E drive.

and i don't like the entire sweep thing, cos even after i did the system restore, the setup of premier pro did not work.

i am afraid that, when i do the complete restore, the setup might still not work and thus, i can't instal premier pro.

as see it, if i can get the setup to work again, i could do a reïnstal and that would fix it

Restoring a backup will never touch other physical drives, so the only conclusion is you have sinned again and partitioned your physical drive into three volumes. With each answer you give, you convince me more and more you have messed up and the only solution is the one I have been giving all along.

                                Your first statement:

well, i can pritty much sai i am screwed.

should have read: Well, I can pretty much say I have screwed up.

and u are sure that the backup will also fix the problem whit the setup?

becous if it doesn't, than i can't reïnstal premier pro.

I'm not sure whether restoring your system will solve everything, there may still be some hardware problem, but what does that have to do with not being able to install CS4? Just install from your install disks.

that is 1 of the bigest problems.

i have the download pacage, and as soon as i try to run the setup, ether from instaling or deïnstalling, the setup craches.

i recon it would work if i wear able to do a reïnstal, but i can't since the deïnstal and instal setup crash.
