I have a large area that I need to tile with 500 small files. Tiling is usually not an issue, but my problem is the file size - it usually becomes too huge to even open up again.
I know that in flash, using symbols, you can place as many symbols as you want on the stage without increasing the file size. Is there anyway to do something similar in Illustrator - perhaps using the links panel somehow?
Any ideas on this? Thanks!
Umm, symbols? Please read up on how to create and use them. Same applies to pattern fills and tile brushes. Should you refer to bitmap images, then prepare them properly in Photoshop and only import at the size and resolution you really need. Alternatively, simply use InDesign which deals much better with bitmaps and externally linked files.
Using symbols does not seem to keep the file size small - my files seem to be the same size as if I directly embedded them.
