klsteven-vBdprK May 3, 2010 3:09 AM (in response to Kevin Goldsmith)Kevin,
now that CS5 is out, can you tell me how long we will have to wait? Is there a preview of the new version?

T Beddard May 3, 2010 6:22 AM (in response to klsteven-vBdprK)Having had a quick play around with the version that comes with the CS5 trial it unfortunately seems to have the same interface and editor bugs as the previous version on OS X (sliders overlapping each other, keypad not working in the text area and keypad inputs only working in the parameter inputs).

T Beddard May 3, 2010 7:09 AM (in response to klsteven-vBdprK)I don't know if there is an individual download available, but you can get it as part of the CS5 Trial:

klsteven-vBdprK May 3, 2010 11:18 AM (in response to Kevin Goldsmith)So the version that Tom mentioned in the CS5 trial is the old one?

z_vra May 4, 2010 7:38 AM (in response to klsteven-vBdprK)Hi there
Is there a plugin for the basic version of photoshop cs5, not extended one? I've tried to install a CS4 plugin using extension manager, but it did not work (Pixel Bender did not appear in filters menu).

klsteven-vBdprK May 18, 2010 10:27 AM (in response to z_vra)Kevin,
any news on the release date or features for the new PB version?

11. Re: Pixel Bender an Photoshop CS5
klsteven-vBdprK Jun 4, 2010 3:54 AM (in response to klsteven-vBdprK)Just installed the new PB version.
I can only speek for Pixel Bender in Photoshop, but I`m wondering what the PB team has been doing since the PB version that shipped with CS4.
It`s the same useless plugin as before. It`s fast (as it was before), but that`s it. Still no useful filters, still a file size limit, that cannot even open a pic from an entry level DSLR, no colormanagement, no tools (not even a rightclick menu for zoom levels) etc., etc.
After 1,5 years extremely disappointing!
Will we ever see a PB version that`s really worth installing for Photoshop?

klsteven-vBdprK Jun 6, 2010 4:03 AM (in response to klsteven-vBdprK)BTW. the new oil filter crashes nearly every time, especially if zoomed in!

13. Re: Pixel Bender an Photoshop CS5
Kevin Goldsmith Jun 7, 2010 6:18 PM (in response to klsteven-vBdprK)I think that your criticism is fair. A lot of work that the Pixel Bender team has done has been in the runtime. Since the GPU path was already very fast, this is hard to tell, but on the CPU, performance is significantly improved. The first version of the plug-in was written by the Pixel Bender team. For CS5, the plug-in transitioned to the Photoshop team and was worked on by both groups. Unfortunately, the PS team was so bogged down doing Cocoa transitioning for OS X that it meant there was little time left over to make UI improvements for the plug-in. (Anyone tells you that converting a major application with millions of lines of code from Carbon to Cocoa is easy doesn't know anything about software development, by the way).
So yeah, we hear you. We appreciate that you want a cool tool for using Pixel Bender in Photoshop. Making your voice heard means that it will hopefully get more UI love for the next version.
Thanks for checking it out!

Kevin Goldsmith Jun 7, 2010 6:19 PM (in response to klsteven-vBdprK)We'll take a look at that configuration and see if can see the problem.
thanks!

15. Re: Pixel Bender an Photoshop CS5
klsteven-vBdprK Jun 8, 2010 1:56 AM (in response to Kevin Goldsmith)Thanks for your reply, Kevin. I think, you would get much more "voices", if you could make PB much more popular. The problem is that most PS users don`t know Pixel Bender. Maybe there should be some kind of hint in Photoshop that there is a plugin called Pixel Bender.

16. Re: Pixel Bender an Photoshop CS5
klsteven-vBdprK Jul 21, 2010 8:20 AM (in response to klsteven-vBdprK)Just wanted to add that PB really crashes VERY often with all kinds of filters. Do
we get an update any time soon? BTW. in the meantime a have a GTX 470.

17. Re: Pixel Bender an Photoshop CS5
Kevin Goldsmith Jul 21, 2010 12:53 PM (in response to klsteven-vBdprK)that is really disturbing. We are prepping an update with a lot of bug fixes, but I'm curious where you are seeing crashes. Is it on launch? Is it when applying a filter? Does it matter which filter?

18. Re: Pixel Bender an Photoshop CS5
klsteven-vBdprK Jul 21, 2010 1:54 PM (in response to Kevin Goldsmith)I`ve found one repeatable bug:
Open PB and go to any filter.
Go to 100% view by clicking "CTRL" and "+"
Go to "cancel" or "OK".
Then PS crashes.
BTW., if I`m zoomed in and move the image with the hand tool (spacebar) a lot of flickering and artifacting can be seen.

19. Re: Pixel Bender an Photoshop CS5
Kevin Goldsmith Jul 21, 2010 2:02 PM (in response to klsteven-vBdprK)yeah, we have seen this bug and are pretty confident that it is fixed in the next release (which will be very soon).

20. Re: Pixel Bender an Photoshop CS5
Royi A Jul 25, 2010 11:30 PM (in response to klsteven-vBdprK)I have few nice Algorithms I created in Matlab for Image Processing.
I wanted to make out of them something that would work in Photoshop.
Woul Pixel Bender be the rights choice?
I need to create a UI with few sliders and preview, that's it.
Will it work with Adobe Lightroom as well?
Thanks.

21. Re: Pixel Bender an Photoshop CS5
Kevin Goldsmith Jul 26, 2010 2:51 PM (in response to Royi A)It depends on the algorithms. If it is expressable in Pixel Bender, that would be a great way to running it in Photoshop without having to write a lot of glue code. The UI is generated for you based on the parameters to your kernel.
Pixel Bender is not currently supported in Lightroom, but may be in a future release.
