1. Re: Is there a plug-in manager in LR 1.1?
Pete Marshall Apr 14, 2010 11:27 PM (in response to x_defect)It's a long time since I used LR 1, but I think the plug in manager was introduced in LR 2. For LR 1 you just need to place the plug in in the appropriate place and follow the plug in makers instructions for instillation. Many plug ins won't work with LR 1. By the way, the last version of LR 1 was 1.4.1 so if you are running 1.1 you should update. Use the help. check for updates and it will be done automatically.

Seán McCormack Apr 17, 2010 7:48 AM (in response to x_defect)The first plugin SDK was for Lightroom 1.3, so plugins are available for that version on. As Pete has recommended, update (free) to 1.41. 1.41 is also the most stable of the 1.x releases.

x_defect Apr 25, 2010 2:45 PM (in response to Seán McCormack)I updated to version 1.4, but I don't see anywhere to manage the plugins.. you mentioned having to "put it in the appropriate place" with older versions - where would that be? Can't seem to find instructions in a search..

4. Re: Is there a plug-in manager in LR 1.1?
Pete Marshall Apr 25, 2010 3:53 PM (in response to x_defect)For LR 1.4.1 you will have to read the instructions given with the plug in on how to install it. You will also need to check that it is a plug in designed for LR 1 rather than LR 2 as most more resent plug ins will be designed to function with LR 2. LR 1 had only limited functionality with plug ins if I remember correctly and instillation varied from plug in to plug in. The location is also dependent on the OS in use. There is no plug in manager with any version of LR 1 that I can remember this was introduced with LR 2. But from LR 1.3 it worked with quite a few plug ins following the release of the SDK.

6. Re: Is there a plug-in manager in LR 1.1?
areohbee Oct 12, 2010 3:07 PM (in response to captiveinflorida)in Lr1.4 - copy plugin folders (including .lrplugin or .lrdevplugin) into a Modules sub-folder of the default Lightroom settings folder, which you can get the exact location of by un-checking "Store presets with catalog" for a moment, then clicking "Show Lightroom Presets Folder" (see Edit Menu -> Preferences... -> Presets Tab). - That's how you find it in Lr3 anyway - I never used Lr1, although I've worked on plugins that are supposedly still compatible with it, but I bet they aren't.
PS - You will have to create the 'Modules' subfolder yourself if its not already there!
But, why would anyone in their right mind by using Lr1 at this point???
Beware: Any plugin that started in 1.4 but has migrated to Lr2 then Lr3, may not work very well in Lr1 anymore, if at all. So, unless its a legacy plugin from the day..., consider yourself fore-warned...
On Windows Vista/7, its: C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Modules - can be translated to windows xp (hint: will probably start with C:\Documents and Settings\{user}...
On Mac I don't remember, maybe someone else knows...

captiveinflorida Oct 12, 2010 11:01 PM (in response to areohbee)Sorry I should have said that I did download it and it went it it's own module folder. but the problem is how do I use it? there is no where in lightroom that says to use it. it's in a folder but does not open anywhere in lightroom. confused.
And I am in my right mind but have no money.....that is why I am not upgrading!

From what you've said, the plugin is already installed, you just don't know how to get at it, eh?
Well, I can only think of these plugin "access points":
1. Lr2+ Lightroom Menus.
2. Lr1+ Export service.
3. Lr2+ Custom metadata.
4. Lr2+ Export filter.
5. Lr2+ Plugin Manager.
Given that, it must be an export plugin - right?
To access, if same as Lr2 was, 'File Menu -> Export...', then select the export plugin from the drop-down list, or via preset if supplied.
What is the plugin???
What is the plugin???
What is the plugin???

captiveinflorida Oct 13, 2010 8:15 AM (in response to areohbee)Rob,
Oh no apologies needed, it wasn't insensitive, just truthful, lol.
I would love to upgrade everything. i have a mac with tiger and so many programs now say they are only for leopard!!
So the plugin is animoto. But I just went back and looked and it says it is only for LR 2, boooooooo.
It is installed but when i go to export - there are no plugins.
Sorry to have bothered you - I should have looked first for what LR it was for.
Have a great day and thank you for being so patience and helpful.
God Bless,
Jane
