It seems that 10.1 groups can take a long time to connect via stratus when there's only one previous person in the group. Is there a way to accelerate the first neighbor connection - perhaps by hinting the first neighbor identifier or similar? It's not very clear from the available documentation whether there's anything that can be done in this regard. My apologies if I missed it somewhere. Thanks.
how long is "a long time"? Stratus will attempt to join a new member of a group to a the existing members of a group immediately (assuming GroupSpecifier.serverChannelEnabled=true). this is done by sending commands to some of the *existing* members to connect to the new joiner. if (for firewall/NAT reasons) the existing members can't connect to the new joiner, but the firewall/NAT might allow a connection to start in the other direction (these cases are rare), then that could happen during a "repair group partitions" pass that Stratus makes from time to time. that's a possible explanation for an extended group bootstrap delay.
Thanks Michael, I think that was probably what was going on - the existing group member was firewalled.
Really appreciate the fantastic work you guys are doing here .. It's great to see these sort of features making there way into flash.
