Terri_F Apr 16, 2010 8:32 PM (in response to tan7281)You can't find Image Ready because it has been incorporated into Photoshop. Photoshop CS2 was the last version that included Image Ready. In CS3 Extended, look under Window<Animation. You can either use the new timeline or the older Image Ready frame sequence style.
Google video search on the subject:

tan7281 Apr 17, 2010 10:14 AM (in response to Terri_F)Thank you for your answer....but a bit confused?....as I am not trying to animate the picture. I am chosing a picture that is already animated, then adding the dog to the picture. Then saving as web device...but it does distory any animaiton with the orig background picture. There was another post I read that did say from a Tech...that cs3 will not let you open and save a pic that is already animated?...that you have to have Adobe fireworks?...
Just really confused as are you saying I have to put the picture back thru the animation after I have added the dogs?...as honstly do not know the orig animation of the pic or how to set back?....but again new to photoshop and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you~

tan7281 Apr 17, 2010 10:24 AM (in response to dec9)Hello,
Thank you for the link...If I read correctly...a response from a tech with photoshopcs3 extended....YOU CANNOT OPEN A PICTURE THAT IS ALREADY ANIMATED ( WHICH I AM CHOSING FROM PHOTO BUCKET ETC)......then I am adding the dogs...in doing this I am losing the animation of the background picture that I pasted the dogs to>...other replys were to go to animation...but I am not trying to animated a picture ..I am working with a picture that is already animated then losing that after working with?...so am I reading correctly in that link that you need adobe Fireworks?....just really confused and just want my picutes to still move and be animated afer working with them when that was to start with?...any help with Image Ready for with cs3 extended would be great. Do not know why cs2 would have built in and sounds sooooooooo much eaiser...is this the case with cs2 that I could just run the picture back thru image ready?.....and done?...if that is the case can that version still be purchased as this is mainly what I use photoshop for is my Yorkie website and pictures?...ANy advise would be greatly appreciated at this point have spent tons of time and cannot figure out?

tan7281 Apr 17, 2010 10:56 AM (in response to Zeno Bokor)ok got that part and thank you soooooooooo much...but once I cut out the dogs and paste them to the picture...will it not distory the orig animation?...or what do I put back thru ect..to have my picture animate after finished with dogs pasted?...
The lady that does the pictures must have cs2...as she is always talking about putting back thru image ready to make move after adding dogs :)...and will not share with others how she is doing:)
I am soooooooooooooooo novice...would the old version cs2 be easier when working with what I am trying to do?...and if so can it still be purchased as this is mainly what I use photoshop for in my Yorkie website and alot is over my head:)...even though do do my own website...again thank you for reply....but driving me nuts and have worked on forever!...when all I am doing is pasting dogs to an animated pic then losing the animation?..

Zeno Bokor Apr 17, 2010 11:01 AM (in response to tan7281)You might want to check out some tutorials about making animations using Photoshop, it should make modifying existing animations much easier. Here's one: http://creativetechs.com/tipsblog/build-animated-gifs-in-photoshop/

Terri_F Apr 17, 2010 3:20 PM (in response to tan7281)Once the animation is imported using File<Import<Video Frames as Layers, open your layers palette if it isn't already. Paste (drop) your dog onto the top layer. Use free transform to resize dog if needed. If you run the animation at this point, the dog is in each frame. (Window<Animation) If you don't want the dog in each frame, you toggle off the dog layer(s) in the layers palette for each frame you don't want it in. To do this, click on each animated frame and toggle off dog layer(s). Do this for each frame you don't want the dog.
Edit: I'm under the assumption that the dog has been selected off it's background.
To export, you have two choices. For a .gif, go to File<Save for Web and Devices. Select GIF...adjust any other settings how you'd like. Set the looping option as your preference Once,Forever, or Other. Before doing this, you might hit the play button to double check what you have made.
To export as a .mov, avi, etc, File<Export<Render Video

tan7281 Apr 17, 2010 4:53 PM (in response to Terri_F)You are so helpful as this can drive you nuts:) as new to this,,,,and not fully comfortable with working with the layers yet....cant seen to open the layers palette?....I know simple...but when I open a new pic the other pic disappears over in the layers palette?.. I even tried opening file-then script to open all the pictures I was working with...and did open over in the layers palette and show each picture but would not allow me to click on one to open in the workspace....had to go back to file and reopen the single pic, then minimize it....go back to file, open...then open the dog,,,erase the background, then copy it,,,then maximize from bottom of workspace my original picture and , then freeform , then paste,,,,,so very new and having problems working with the layers and keeping them over to the right....then not sure how to drag or drop the pic into the other?.....if could get that think I could def do the advise you gave me in last email and put the dog on the top layer?...thank you in advance:) I will keep working with ....:)

Terri_F Apr 17, 2010 7:36 PM (in response to tan7281)I'm not sure anyone mentioned this but if not to open GIFs using the import you have to enter the GIF name as GIF isn't listed as one of the options.
It sounds like you are viewing the images in a maximized screen mode. To view more than one document, press F to cycle through the screen modes. FYI, only the contents of the currently selected document can be viewed in the layers palette.
I'll just talk about copy/paste so as not to confuse...
If you are going to copy/paste, click the frame around the dog document to target it. Your layers palette will now contain the contents of the dog document. Click on the layer in the layers palette with the selected dog over transparency. With that layer highlighted in your layers palette, press Ctrl A; then Ctrl C. (Select<Select All; Edit<copy if you prefer using the menu.) This will copy that layer into your clipboard.
Next, click the frame of the document containing the animation. Click the topmost layer in the layers palette because we want you dog to be in the top layer. Press Ctrl + V. (Edit<Paste if you prefer using the menu).
Your dog is most likely going to be too big. Use Edit<Free Transform to size and move the dog to the desired location.
At this point, your dog should be showing in each frame in the animation palette.
Example:
I'm using the older Image Ready me method. The highlighted place in the palette is where you switch methods between the old method and the new timeline. Notice, I have the layers and animation palette both in the workspace...and I'm not in a maximized mode. The red arrow shows the correlation between the frame and the layer represented by it in the layers palette.
Here I have a second image to slip into my animation. I have the creature selected and on it's own layer with transparency around it. Notice that the the layer with the isolated creature is highlighted. At this stage, I'll press Ctrl + A; then Ctrl + C to select and save this image to my clipboard.
Here, I've pasted (Ctrl + V or Edit<Paste) in my creature and resized it (Ctrl + T or Edit<free transform) so he can be jumped. I also added a shadow under my creature which I added to a layer under my creature. Notice that when Frame one is selected in the animation palette that the eye is on for both the layer with the creature and the layer with the creature's shadow. If I click the eye to turn them (creature and shadow layers) off with frame one selected in the animation palette, they disappear from the entire animation. I can make them appear at any frame by clicking the desired frame in the animation then turning on the eye icon for the creature and shadow layer in the layers palette. I can also adjust opacity if desired.
You could even more than the one image if you want the dog to appear to move or even transform<warp to the dog on a duplicate layer of the dog to make it appear to move. Use the eyeball visibility to determine which pose will be used for that frame.
Gif's don't seem to display in this forum but here's an example of using transform<warp to give the appearance of motion.

Terri_F Apr 17, 2010 9:57 PM (in response to cnvanon)As the last poster said, you really should try to learn the basics. You're really leaping ahead...
As I said, you'll need to input the gif file name with the .gif extention to get a .gif to import. FYI, you won't see any gifs listed in the list portion of the box so you need to input in the name. Once you start the file name, windows (Vista) will start listing suggestions in the file open drop down box. (This assumes that you have the dialog pointed at the location...desktop or folder...where you have the GIF saved).
Import dialog doesn't show gif option.
Here I inserted the name of the gif animation file along with the .gif extention. Press "Load" to get the next import dialog box for how you want the gif to open.
Here you notice Vista suggesting items that I might want to load from my desktop...where I have the dialog pointed...that start with u. Just click the appropriate choice if it comes up to fill in the file name box.
