Premiere 4.0 appcrash with Windows 7 Professional

I bought a new computer, HP p6319f, and loaded my Premeire 4.0 onto it.  I load a vidio file (.mod) and go to play it to decide where I want to put text and music overlay.   It plays for a little while (maybe 30 sec) then appcrash.

Keep in mind I am no computer guru.... I have read some posts on similar issues and people refere to running 32bit mode instead of 64 bit vista.  Mine is 64 bit but windows 7 professional.  If this is what I need to do how do I change to 32bit mode and do I need to switch back and forth depending on what program I want to run?  Also is there a fix file that I could load to make premiere to work on Windows 7 Professional?

      My computer details:

      HP p6319f

      AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 630 Processor 2.80 GHz

      6.00 GB (5.74 GB usable)

      64-bit Operating System

Any help would be appreciated!!!  But remember to have patience with me..... I am no where near anyones knowledge level of computers on here.....
