    Can't Use Any Other Skins - Only the Ones That Came with DW

    Amarotti Level 1

      Hello Everyone,

      I am a little frustrated, as I would think some of you may be.

      I love Dreamweaver, but here's the problem I'm dealing with right now:

      I am inserting videos in some webpages, and DW does a good and quick job of it right out of the box... if you use the Supplied Skins.

      I have made some custom skins and it would be fantastic if DW would let me use them.

      I put them in the folder with the included skins, and I can choose them from the skin selector dialog box, But they don't work in Live View, or when loaded into a browser.

      It's not just my custom skins either, I tried using the skins that came with Flash CS4, both AS2 & AS3 with the same results.

      Any Ideas??

      Thank you in advance, your support is much appreciated!

          Hello PZ,

          Thanks for the reply and link!

          I've seen this tutorial before and tried it, but I had some problems, which I think is a missprint in the tutorial itself... maybe you can help clarify.

          The tutorial gives two code blocks, a before and an after.

          Problem:

          The after codeblock seems to be missing an opening tag, and I don't know how to fix it.

          Before:

          <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0" width="160" height="120" id="FLVPlayer">
            <param name="movie" value="FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf" />
            <param name="salign" value="lt" />
            <param name="quality" value="high" />
            <param name="scale" value="noscale" />
            <param name="FlashVars" value=" &MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=Clear_Skin_1&streamName=../videos/cow01&autoPlay=false&autoRewind=false" />
            <embed src="FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf" flashvars=" &MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=Clear_Skin_1&streamName=../videos/cow01&autoPlay=false&autoRewind=false" quality="high" scale="noscale" width="160" height="120" name="FLVPlayer" salign="LT" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
          </object>

          Notice the first line:   <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http:

          And the After:

          codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0" width="180" height="167" id="FLVPlayer">
            <param name="movie" value="FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf" />
            <param name="salign" value="lt" />
            <param name="quality" value="high" />
            <param name="scale" value="noscale" />
            <param name="FlashVars" value=" &MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=farmSkin_small&streamName=../videos/cow01&autoPlay=false&autoRewind=false" />
            <embed src="FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf" flashvars=" &MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=farmSkin_small&streamName=../videos/cow01&autoPlay=false&autoRewind=false" quality="high" scale="noscale" width="180" height="167" name="FLVPlayer" salign="LT" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
          </object>

          Notice this first line: codebase="http:

          It appears that a tag is missing, right?

          How would you fix this?

          Also, when I just try and fix the paths to see the skin that I want to use, that doesn't work either

          Thanks Again !!   AM

            Hi

            The entire code-block is wrong for CS4, I am assuming DWCS4 as you are using Flash CS4, is this correct?

            The only sections of code in the flv insert that is used in DW CS4 that needs to be changed, is the two places where the code -

            skinName=Clear_Skin_1

            is inserted.

            If the skin does not work check that it includes the 'controls' code, if it is your own custom skin, see - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/flv_tutorial_pt2_02.html.

            The full tutorial can be read here - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/flv_tutorial_pt2_02.html.

            The tutorials and code are for Flash 8 and actionscript 2 so are out of date but will still work providing you have no actionscript 3 in you code, there is a tutorial describing the actionscript 3 video controls here - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/flvplayback_programming.html.

              Hello PZ,

              Thanks for your attention to this topic!

              Thanks for that  Action Script Language Reference too, I am brand new to AS and that is helpful.

              Well I read all of that 2 more times and rechecked my process and here's what I come up with.

              * The only skins that I have access to that work with DW, are the 3 (3X3=9) that come with it.

              No matter what I have done to fix this problem, nothing works.

              I have replaced the name of the skin that I used in DW when placing my video with the name of several different skins, and the player doesn't work.

              * If I manually substitute the name of the DW placed skin with any of the skins that came with DW CS4 (clear_skin_xxx, halo_skin_xxx, corona_skin_xxx) they work just fine.

              ** BUT if I substitue any other skin, includding all of the AS2 & AS3 skins that came with DW, they Don't work.

              -- What doe's happen when I view the page in  a browser is this:  The skin plays in front of the movie clip (blocking it) and it is solid with no transparency, and none of the buttons work at all.

              So I don't get it, Adobe's own skins don't work with DW (except the ones that came with it)??

              I am sure this problem isn't unique to me.

              This makes what could be a really cool function of DW, a bummer unless you love the included variations of the 3 skins that come with it.

              There's got to be a better answer, am I just missing something huge??

              thanks for your interest!!

                Hi

                You are correct in what you say about the skins that come with flash not being interchangeable with dreamweaver, if you look at the tutorial on creating your own skins, (page 2) you will see the following at the bottom of the article -

                Note: The skins for the FLVPlayback component in Flash Professional 8, and the skins for the Flash Video component in Dreamweaver 8 are not interchangeable, because the instance names and code above are not the same between the two components.

                However you can create your own skins as shown in the article, the other option if you wish to use the ones that came with flash pro is to decompile the flash pro skins then use them in your own skin but include the controller code, (from the tutorial zip files) in the actions panel, (not certain of the legality of this as the skins are copyright of Adobe, but I cannot see them complaining). As for the swf decompiler there are a few available some free some paid, but in my opinion this one is the best, (also has a trial version) - http://www.sothink.com/product/flashdecompiler/?gclid=CKfj9ZuqlaECFVKZ2AodWH2eOw.

                Once you have created your own skins these will work when inserted in dreamweaver.
