I am not sure about the range exception, but if you are destroying all the objects within the Arraycollection, use ArrayCollection.source = new Array() instead of ArrayCollection.removeAll(). Calling removeAll() on large ArrayCollections seems to be a really heavy operation and could kill responsiveness of the application.

I saw this error as well. The steps were,
collection.removeAll(); // this is the error
The solution was to call refresh after calling remove all.
collection.removeAll(); // no error
