Is there a way to reveal the password in the FTP Remote Info area of the Manage Site option? I'm in the process of obtaining all of the necessary info of my company's clients sites and some of the websites were set up prior to my employment here. I do currently have access to upload files to their sites through DW CS4, but I don't know the password if I ever were to need it in the future. Currently each character shows up as a bullet point.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
As the previous reply suggests, you can use Import/Export Site Settings in the DW Site Manager. That will successfully backup the encrypted password and allow you to transfer it to other machines - but it won't decrypt it for you.
The only way I know of to decrypt the bullet points back to alphanumeric characters is to ask the host.
If you're connecting to unencrypted FTP sites, using a Sniffer like WireShark will show the passwort transmitted in plain text to the ftp server. I am embarrassed having to admit that I needed to resort to this procedure myself a couple of times when i forgot the ftp passwort for a client and all I had was a working site setup in DW..
