I would appreciate your help with tracing techniques. I would like to convert a bitmap (jpeg) with perspective and gradients to a flat-looking graphic - very simple; all fills one shade of gray and all lines the same point size. I've been trying to do this with live trace and cannot get the result I'm looking for. I'm sure I'm making this more difficult than it is...
Here is an example:
I would like to convert this to vectors. For example, 1-point outlines of all the major features - I don't need every single detail like the inset bolts - and all surfaces the same color gray.
Is this possible? I apologize if I'm trivializing something that is more complex than it seems...
To tell you the truth the very best way to do this is to manually trace this image using the pen tool and other drawing tools in combination.
I think you will be happier with the results and once you get started you will probably finished before you find another way.
If that does not help look at Vector Magic.
But keep in mind once you have mastered the pen tool then you will be a lot freer to do more things.
Thanks Wade - I appreciate it.
