I recently created a deck of cards in Illustrator for a design show. All the elements were created in Illustrator CS4 in different files. I started a new file and put the cards together printed and saved my file as usual. a week later I tried to open up the file and now the TEXT IMPORT OPTIONS box appears and it wont open up my file and all the hard work i put in putting them together. the element files open up as usual. Is my file gone forever? will i have to piece them back? Is ther anyway of opening it up?
3 words: Versioning, versioning and backups. Oh, and did I mention versioning and backups? Yes, the file is most likely gone *poof*, so it wil lhave to be reassembled. And you realyl might consider developing a strategy to keep valuable work files safe.
However there is always a chance, a small chance, that placing the file in an empty ai document might work or opening it in Acrobat or stilling it and then creating a pdf and opening the in ai might work.
Or try opening it in Photoshop.
