bump ... each time I start up director I am forced to locate some linked scripts, maybe 3 scripts, maybe 5 ... it's different each time I start up director ...
Is it every time you open DIrector or every time you open certain files? I mean, if you open Director without any specific .dir, does it still throw errors?
Mike, thanks for responding;
if I open Director alone, everything is fine;
but if I attempt to open a specific .dir which has linked scripts, then I get all the missing links errors, and it is a different number of missing links, and actual different missing links each time I open the .dir;
it's a bit of a pain;
Where are the linked files? Are they in the same folder as the dir? Are they on a networked drive? Are they on a different drive than the dir?
everything is on my computer's c-drive; however, my dir file is located in a different directory than the .ls files; also, the .ls files ( about 30 ) are themselves distributed between two folders ( they are not all in the same dir );
something that is interesting, using Lightwave as an example: in LW when I open it, if it cannot locate a bunch of linked files, say images, once I locate the first image via the LW 'locate missing file' dialog box, any subsequent missing image files will be searched for automatically in the new located directory; so I only have to go through the 'locate missing file' process once; but Director is not doing this;
I may have found a solution;
I am using mx2004;
unfortunately I did not take screenshots of the procedure that I went through, so I will just describe it:
when director opens and does not find a linked file, say A.ls, a look-for-file dialog box pops; over the past several weeks I have been using this dialog box to locate the missing linked file;
however today I hit cancel; and afterwards another dialog box, slightly different from the first ( looks almost the same but somehow different - sorry no screenshot ) popped up and again asked me for A.ls, and so I located it with this second look-for-file dialog box;
afterwards, so far, I can open director without any missing link issues;
EDIT ... I spoke too soon ... this is not a reliable solution;
