Did you have a chance to setup your scratch disk(s) in Illustrator Preferences? You might have too many apps running at one time and/or do not have enough RAM and/or disk space. Check your disk permissions. If you haven't "corrected" them yet, do it now and see if that helps.
That didn't work John unfortunately. Illustrator has worked fine up until i I recently placed a large PS file. It seems to have affected all other files which are saved ever since. Shall I trash the preferences?
Adobe told me to read this article but it makes no reference to Windows 7.
A bit of a mystery this one. And quite frustrating as u can imagine!
forgot to mention that exporting is fine. just saving is the problem.
How large a Photoshop ile? Is it linked or embedded? are you saving with or without PDF compatibility? To bring the size of your Illustrator file down, make sure placed images are linked rather than embedded. If you don’t need to use that Illustrator file in another program, like InDesign, then turn of PDF compatibility. This can turn a file from several hundreds of megabytes to several hundreds of kilobytes.
Can we see a screenshot of the art and the layers panel expanded and layers panel expanded.
Could be a font that is corrupt or has corrupted a font data base also referred to as font cache.
That could stall it as can a plug in.
i'm thinking of doing a system restore back to before the photoshop file was placed.
photoshop file was 200mbs and linked not embedded.
i'm just baffled why since designing with this large ps file other 1mb files are taking too long to save.
will let u know the outcome of a system restore.
problem solved. i did a system restore again but back further this time.
5 hours of troubleshooting later!
