Corrupt Preference directory, Plug in conflict or corruption.
Try t create a new user account log in and launch from there!
Just in case you did not understand Mylenium's posting
1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS4 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
Corrupt font cache!
Go download the free utility FontNuke (google will point you there) and use that to clear out your font caches.
You didn't happen to update your Acrobat recently, did you?
Yes larry might be correct if your update your Acrobat 8 you have to read the tech note.
I think we are getting there - when I create a new user account yes it works fine thank you.
The only problem is all my files are on the other user. If I copy them over will it corrupt the new user account or should it be ok?
I also tried to do the font nuke thing but still no joy so I guess this narrows it down doesnt it? it cant be a corrupt font??
If you can give me any more advice Id appreciate it..
Also in answer to the next question yes my adobe updater constantly updates acrobat so I guess I have had new recent updates for acrobat.
every time it tries to update acrobat 8 I get an error message something about needing a patch - now I have acrobat 9 will this be a problem now??
The thread Larry set yu t is the problem follow the instructions and you will be fine on your current user account.
just to throw a spanner into the works - i uninstalled acrobat pro 8 last night in my frustrations but now have acrobat pro 9 installed
I went to reinstall acrobat pro 8 from my CS3 disc but the disc will not even launch for setup anymore.
I have followed the tech instructions but I guess without acrobat 8 nothing works - sorry guys you are great but can you bear with me now and help me further.
what I cant understand though is that illustrator works on the other user without acrobat pro 8???? I guess as you say there is some corruption somewhere.
