    displaying < > in flash

I am building a flash admin interface for a website so the owner can replace certain text fields on the website. The text is stored in a mySQL database and retrieved with php (xml).

The text field doesn't seem to be able to display the tag brakets (<>) what do I need to do so the user can make his text bold and italic (<b> and <i>) or create a line break (<b>) or even a link (<a href>) ? Do I need to set up a button for all of those and parse the text or something complicated like that? isn't there a way to just have the owner format the html himself?
