Zeno Bokor May 8, 2010 11:46 PM (in response to mdharg)The Fill dialog only defaults to the Content Aware option when you're accessing it on the background layer. The old way simply filled with the background color swatch so use Ctrl+Backspace instead.

mdharg May 9, 2010 1:50 AM (in response to Zeno Bokor)Thank you Zeno,
I ran a quick check and it worked as you told me. I hope this stuff gets fixed in the future.

4. Re: CS5 no delete key
mdharg May 9, 2010 10:40 PM (in response to John Joslin)In CS4 the delete key in either position clears something when I have it selected. It was that way in my older versions as well. Its a single key action. In CS5 now I have to press two keys Control & Backspace, or use the dropdown menu. It's just more work, period. I hope to not find more stuff like this in other parts of the suite.
Mathew
What's to fix?

Glitcher3000 Jun 18, 2010 1:24 PM (in response to mdharg)Is there any way to change the Backspace/Delete back to its previous function?

thhurli Dec 20, 2011 5:26 AM (in response to mdharg)Same problem here. Is there any way to change the Backspace/Delete back to its previous function?
Who for heavens sake, had the idea to change the function of the delete key. At least the delete key was a constant through all applications. Now it isn't any more.
I just want to delete. Quick and easy. Is that too much to ask for?

Noel Carboni Dec 20, 2011 6:37 AM (in response to thhurli)What, exactly, do you mean by "I just want to delete"?
If you mean "I just want the Delete key to fill the Background layer with the background color", then that wasn't really a Delete before either, was it? It was always a fill.
That said, like you at first I found the change disconcerting. Just use it for a while; you'll get used to it.

8. Re: CS5 no delete key
thhurli Dec 20, 2011 6:51 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)Well, not entirely correct. It was a real delete, if you deleted something on a layer. It was a "fill with background color" only when you were on the background layer.
However. I just want it to behave as it did for the last 24 years.

9. Re: CS5 no delete key
Noel Carboni Dec 20, 2011 8:16 AM (in response to thhurli)It's still like that. The only place where the dialog comes up is on the Background.
Select something on a layer and hit the delete key. It still deletes just like always for me in that case. What's it doing for you?

10. Re: CS5 no delete key
thhurli Dec 20, 2011 8:24 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)My bad. You are right, it really only behaves different on the background layer. Suppose I have to adjust to this then.

No worries. Change can be difficult to deal with at first.
Note that if you hold down the Control key when using the Delete key on the Background it will behave as it did before.

13. Re: CS5 no delete key
TLL... Dec 20, 2011 8:33 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)I P&M'd about this when I jumped from CS3 to 5. Use shift/delete and that'll delete to backround color on a locked 'backround' layer. Or change the layer you want to delete from to a 'layer', then a straight up delete will, well, delete
Old habits die hard, as I still get caught by this now and then, it was a dumb change IMHO, but was needed to show off content aware fill I guess...
