I'm trying to figure out how to do photoshop eqivulant to Bevel/Emboss in the Layer Styles area only in Illustrator text onto a image. I've only come across "metal text" tutorials which I know how to do. Since I'm working with vector text, I prefer to do this within Illustrator.
The closest you can get is to use a 3D extrude and bevel with the rotation angles set to zero. The nicest thing I can say about Illustrtor’s 3D effects is that they are utter crap, especially when you combine bevels with text.
There is no easy way to simulate Photoshop’s bevel and emboss effects with vectors. Even InDesign rasterizes the effects. Your best bet is to setthe text inPhotoshop, apply the effects, save as PSD, and place into your Illustrator file.
There are ways to get close, but they are cumbersome and still don’t replicate all effects possible in Photoshop.
I suppose that is the route I'm going to have go take by doing it in Photoshop and importing it !
