And honestly: Try to learn the app instead of just rehashing tutorials! Seems to me you are trying to get ahead of yourself without even understanding how AE works on a most basic level... Without some knowledge of effects, masking and tracking, you will never be able to get any effects off the ground. You know, it may not look like it, but it's all hard work and a tutorial can only get you so far.

There are about a million ways to do this. The first thing that's required is to separate the foreground and background elements. Easy way - shoot green screen footage and background plates. Hard way - rotoscope.
You can then create a new layer for your energy ball. There are a bunch of plug-ins that can give you something that mat work. You may need to use more than one layer. Easy - Lens Flare. Hard - a bunch of layers nested with Fractal Noise, Lightning, blur, blend modes, Vegas, or a bunch of other fx.
