1. Re: Flash movies need two clicks to start
Newsgroup_User Aug 11, 2007 4:12 AM (in response to JayNewWeb)It's IE-only behaviour as a result of changes Microsoft made several
years ago to their browser, regarding how Active Content (Flash, Quicktime
etc)
is handled, after losing a high profile court case.

If you're running Dreamweaver 8.0.2/CS3, the fix is already built into DW's
interface.
If not, try http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/

2. Re: Flash movies need two clicks to start
JayNewWeb Aug 11, 2007 3:40 PM (in response to Newsgroup_User)I appreciate it.
I'm running DW MX 2004 v 7.0.1.
I had posted an inquiry a few weeks ago specifically asking if upgrading to the current version of DW would provide any benefits for putting Flash video on the web and was told it wouldn't. It seems that's not entirely correct. This alone is worth the upgrade.
So, now that I've decided to upgrade to CS3, can I ignore the info at the link you gave me for the Javascript fix (and the rest of the links you provided)?
Thanks.

5. Flash movies need two clicks to start
JayNewWeb Aug 13, 2007 5:13 PM (in response to thespin)That's interesting. I'm certainly in the camp of believers who say that waiting for others to finish beta-testing/using something is always best.
The only thing I really cared about that motivated me to upgrade is being able to have the new Javascript natively present for making Flash video play on a single click of the Play button on the player instead of requiring two clicks of the Play button as is the case with DW MX 2004.
I just installed the CS3 trial and right away I noticed some of my pages created in MX 2004 were appearing very differently in Design view, with text being too small, or appearing rasterized if I zoomed, and with dotted boxes around paragraphs -- but only on some pages. But in the browser they look normal. This is definitely going to confuse me, or require conversion of some sort. (I have no idea what I would convert them with -- possibly one of the features that I noticed in the File – Convert menu?)
I also noticed right away that the fix I was after was certainly present and operating like a charm: saving the page gives you a message saying the Scripts folder and file were added to your root and to make sure to upload them. I did that and the Flash videos on my site now all play with a single click of the Play button! (I could swear the speech audio is more realistic, too, but maybe that's just me.)
I am the opposite of a power user, and I'm not using it to integrate with any of the other Creative Suite apps. So, maybe CS3 offers me little if anything that DW 8.0.2 can't offer, and maybe CS3 has more headaches for me than I need right now. I have no idea about how to weigh that and would GREATLY appreciate advice on this, please!
So, how advantageous will it be for me to go to DW 8.0.2 instead, realistically? Seems like I'd need a big reason to try to go to DW 8 since there's no support (tutorials etc) compared to CS3.
And if it is really advantageous, where do I find it on the web and can I get a trial version to try out?
Thanks!

7. Flash movies need two clicks to start
JayNewWeb Aug 14, 2007 12:45 AM (in response to Newsgroup_User)I'm going with your guidance here, Murry. I know you're the ace and have seen you here doing that for years.
So now I'm anxiously watching for you or someone else to please reply to my inquiry at another new thread I started on how to do the "conversion" so pages created in MX 2004 appear correctly in Design view in CS3.
Thanks.

9. Re: Flash movies need two clicks to start
JayNewWeb Aug 14, 2007 11:07 AM (in response to Newsgroup_User)Murray,
I'm not sure what you want me to do for posting the topic as a new thread. I'm happy to accommodate whatever protocol and steps you request. I'm confused, though, because I thought I had already done exactly what you suggest: I posted it as a new thread, and linked to it with a hyperlink in my prior post where I refer to "this thread." I'm going to edit that now so the hyperlink will instead say "another new thread I started" since it's probably ambiguous the way it was worded. If that's not achieving what you wanted, just let me know.

Newsgroup_User Aug 14, 2007 11:33 AM (in response to Newsgroup_User)Please don't edit posts. They will not show for anyone accessing the thread
from a newsreader.
Just start a new thread by making a new post and ask your question.
