Glad that you have gotten it covered. Just to make sure that others can benefit from your research, you mean the program, Any Video Converter, correct?
Xvid is a very poor CODEC for a camera to use, because it is a highly-compressed, deliver-only CODEC. However, with the compact video cameras, the mfgr's. anticipation is that the consumer will only display, or post the material, rather than try to edit it. Because of the size of those cameras (helmet-cams use it too), I can see why it is used, or one could only do a few minutes of less-compressed footage. Still, while OK for display only, it's not bad, and is open source.
With conversion, one ONLY makes the footage easier to edit, and the quality, that was compressed out, is gone forever. Still, for many, the editability is job 1.

i wish my school had more money to buy 20 flip hd cameras. those work great
but very expensive for our budget.
