    Error # 1119

    Jens Peermann Level 2

      Flash CS3, Mac version.

      The description for this number reads: "Delete operator is not supported with operand of type _."

      Huh?

      What am I doing wrong?

      Any help greatly appreciated.

          click file/publish settings/flash and tick "permit debugging".  retest.  copy and paste the error message here and copy and paste the line of code mentioned in the error message.

            Thanks kglad,

            Here it is:

            Description:

            1119: Access of possibly undefined property fotoLoader through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObjectContainer.

            Source:

            this.parent.fotoLoader.load(new URLRequest(event.target.name + "swf"));

            This is the code on the main timeline:

            var fotoLoader:Loader = new Loader();

            fotoLoader.load(new URLRequest("imagepile.swf"));

            addChild(fotoLoader);

            This is the code on the embedded navigation timeline:

            stop();

            function buttonClick(event:MouseEvent):void

            {

            gotoAndStop(event.target.name);

            this.parent.fotoLoader.load(new URLRequest(event.target.name + "swf"));

            }

            imagepile.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClick);

                Thanks kglad,

                It works partially. The Initial file - imagepile - loads properly. But when clicking any of the other navigation buttons the following error messages show in the Output window:

                Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:,

                and

                text+Error #2035: URL Not Found

                The files are present, residing in the same folder as the parent file.

                Any ideas?

                I appreciate your help.

                  actually, it works completely.  you should mark this thread as answered.

                  your new error is because you're trying to load something that doesn't exist.  to debug use the trace() function:

                  var fotoLoader:Loader = new Loader();

                  fotoLoader.load(new URLRequest("imagepile.swf"));

                  addChild(fotoLoader);

                  stop();

                  function buttonClick(event:MouseEvent):void

                  {

                  gotoAndStop(event.target.name);

                  trace(event.target.name + "swf");

                  MovieClip(this.parent).fotoLoader.load(new URLRequest(event.target.name + "swf"));

                  }

                  imagepile.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClick);

                  catalog.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClick);

                  catalogrates.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClick);

                  advertising.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClick);

                  advertisingrates.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClick);

                  business.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClick);

                  buildings.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClick);

                  onlocationrates.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClick);

                  manipulation.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClick);

                  manipulationrates.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonClick);

                    You're right, it works.

                    My error was not trying to load something that doesn't exist, my error was typing ...(event.target.name + "swf")); instead of ...(event.target.name + ".swf"));

                    Leaving out that dot in front of "swf" messed up everything.

                    I marked the question solved, with credits going to you.

                    Thanks a lot.

                      you're welcome.

                      p.s.  the trace() function is, by far, the most helpful tool you can use to debug actionscript.
