1. Re: Finding Auto Save Directory CS4
Bill Hunt May 12, 2010 10:35 AM (in response to brian100780)On the PC, the AutoSave folder is created as a sub-folder of the Project's root folder. Do not think that this changed with CS4.
Good luck,

brian100780 May 12, 2010 11:57 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)so if i create a folder on the desktop and set the project to that folder i should see everything in there. this means the pr icon, the preview files, encoded files and the auto save? for some reason its not. i could be mis understanding.

Harm Millaard May 12, 2010 1:02 PM (in response to brian100780)Is there any reason to save it on the desktop? From a performance POV that is a bad idea.

brian100780 May 12, 2010 4:16 PM (in response to brian100780)I agree about not saving to the desktop I just used that location as an example / dummy project to test whether or not it it was correct.

5. Re: Finding Auto Save Directory CS4
Bill Hunt May 12, 2010 4:21 PM (in response to brian100780)Let's restructure that example.
I am creating a Project for XYZ Corp, for their Sales Event 2010. I'd create XYZCorp_Sales_2010. That would be my root. I would then add sub-folders, Video, Stills, Audio, SFX, Music, probably Capture, and would also set my Scratch Disks to Same as Project. With that last bit, PrPro would create the requisite Scratch Disk sub-folders too. Then, when AutoSave kicks in, it would write to an AutoSave sub-folder of XYZCorp_Sales_2010. In my case, I would have up to five files in there, incremented 001 thru 005, and these would be continually rewritten in FIFO (First in First Out).
Hope that helps, and good luck,
Hunt

6. Re: Finding Auto Save Directory CS4
brian100780 May 12, 2010 4:30 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)i agree. for some reason the auto save folder doesnt show. i am wondering if
it had something to do with the install. the issue is that i have admin
rights on my classroom computers, students do not. i have students save to
an external hard drive. in a perfect world the auto save folder would be
there but its missing. again i could be totally off on this but im just
wondering how big that auto save folder can get and how much of an impact it
is on the hard drive. i do a cache clean every day so i figured that would
help.
again bill thanks alot your knowledge is priceless.

7. Re: Finding Auto Save Directory CS4
Bill Hunt May 12, 2010 4:36 PM (in response to brian100780)You can take your PRPROJ file and multiply it x 5, then add a byte, or two, for the folder. That will be the size.
Now, in Edit>Preferences, check AutoSave. It is set to 5 AutoSave files and in intervals of every 5 mins., unless that has been changed.
Not sure of the issues that could arise on a networked environment, especially when users are not Administrators.
Good luck, and let us know if you find the AutoSave folder and files.
Hunt
