Saving a document screws up my sourcce code

    Level 7
      Hi

Having a mare here. OSX DW 8.02

Since upgrading to the latest dreamweaver, when I open up one of my site
pages, (which has a considerable amount of hard coded content, much of which
edited from original DW code) make some changes and then save, DW screws up
my source code, on this particular page it kind of comments out a whole
      section of my update code.

      Please help!!!

PS working on an asp page which also runs from a template page.

      Cheers, James

            Hi

Why should it matter what my code is?

Is there a setting in preferences that can be set to not auto-alter any code
            I already have?
I am having this problem on numerous pages from various sites and am having
to resort to editing in notepad on my PC, a real pain.

            Thanks, J

If DW is doing goofy things to your code, it could be because it is confused
by what it finds in your code when you open the page. There is a preference
setting to minimize code rewriting, but some code-format-centric people
complain that it's not strict enough....

I work almost entirely in code view. Without exception, every time DW
has messed with my code, it's because of an error on my part.

Because regular experience on this forum leads us to suspect that the core
issue is often with screwed up code rather than DW preference settings.

Seeing the code helps regulars here very quickly narrow down the list of
suspects. The symptoms you are experiencing may well be a diversion from the
true issue. The code will show us that very quickly.

You can go into dw preferences-->code rewriting and turn off all code
                        rewriting.

if dw is still making changes-
If this is an ASP page:
please save a copy of the before code as a .txt file, and copy of the after
code as a .txt file, and give a link to the uploaded files. (with info on
what line(s) to start looking at for where it's changed.
