I'm going to take a guess here - if you create a brand new document and do not paste anything into it, but create a path, apply a Graphic Style, then copy and paste that path, you do not see this problem right?
If that is correct, then my guess is that you frequently work with files where some of the content was created in a much older version of Illustrator and you should refer to this knowledge base article to see if it can help: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408008.html
Have you found a solution for this?
Only advice I can offer is an alternative to paste in front. Alt curor a copy, then use the opposite cursor to get this back in position.
Might as well add to this. This is an ongoing problem with Illustrator. It drives me crazy. So, as far I can see, this problem continues. For me, it makes the feature completely unusable. I work with files that get passed around between team members. The styles always stay the same from document to document, and I really want to use this feature, but it causes such headaches trying to keep files clean and styles consistent.
