I guess first of all you should have a look at your settings:
720 x 576 (par 1.4587) equals 1049 x 576 (par 1.0 --- NOT 1.4587) Thats why it looks squeezed.
Thats not the problem I mean. My camera settings are 720 x 576 (par 1.4587).
When I capture the footage, CS5 takes the clips with this 720 x 576 (par 1.4587) and everything is okay.
But... some clips in my footage (different clips on different tries) were taken with 1049 x 576 (par 1.4587) which is wrong. I can't adjust this, this is done by premiere itself on capturing...
So it can be, if I capture a clip more than once, sometimes its captured correctly with 720 x 576 (par 1.4587) and sometimes its captured wrong with 1049 x 576 (par 1.4587). The settings are all the same, I have no influence on this.
So it looks like a bug?
Thats odd - and just dont listen to me cause i'm just an amateur - BUT to me this sounds like a problem not related to cs5 but rather to the cam itself, cabling (?) and or transfer_routines.
Yes, very strange. But capturing the same stuff with the "imovies" (09 or 06) is no problem.
I also works with premiere cs4 or cs3 - so, it seems to be a bug in CS5.
Perhaps some Adobe-guy has a comment on this?
Are you seeing this issue on Mac or PC? I suspect that you are correct that this may be a bug in CS5 but if you are on a Mac, it could also be something in the way that QuickTime is handing off the file. Which version of QuickTime do you have? Do you ever have a similar problem when capturing 4x3 material, or is it always 16x9 footage?
Go to the Project Window and check the clips in Interprete footage and see if they are set to dv widescreen.
Where are you reading the numbers 1049x576?
I have the issues on a Mac. Quicktime is 7.6.6 (pro) and 10.0.
(I have the same issue with 4:3 clips dv-pal, some of them are randomly captured in 720 x 576 and 787 x 576 (both 1,0940) from the same camera - the same footage, same tape).
Back to the 1049 x 576 instead of 720 x 576 - problem:
All clips are seen in the project-window (rightclick at the clip - information) as 16:9 and 1,4587 - which is false in case of the 1049 x 576. Both the clip information as the short info on top of the project-window showing 1049 x 576 on such a clip. The captured footage should be allways 720 x 576 Aspect 1,4587. It is definitely wrong, that some clips where captured from the same tape with 1049 x 576 Aspect 1,4587. Those clips are shown in all available informations in ppro with this wrong values.
The wrong clips (1049 x 576) are shown in the interprete footage - option as 16:9 - 1,4587. I know, this is nonsense, but it is.
Did anyone hear anything about a fix for this bug? I am encountering the same problem on my Mac. Thanks.
Same issue here on PPro CS5 on a Mac.
My captured letterbox 16:9 DV PAL ( Panasonic DVX100) footage was captured in two sizes: 787x576 & 720x576, both (1.9040 PAR). Same tapes & device. Same capture settings.
1. I wonder how did that happen. I tested some captured clips, but after running the whole thing the resultsw ere mixed.
2. What should the sequence settings for a PAL DV Widescreen timeline?
3. What should the export settings be for computer monitor viewing?
