oh flash gets so confused with backslashes as they are used for dual purposes. they are used to "escape" a character. eg putting a backslash in front of a t makes a tab. and of course sometimes you want them to simply be backslashes...
its hard to find info on this in help. it's actually under string data type. have a look in livedocs.
the way to tell flash that what you're after is one simple backslash, is by typing two: \\
so your path would read:
oldstring = "\\\\Users\\Me\\Desktop\\photos\\photo4.jpg"
Thanks I am aware of that,
My problem is that I get the path as a variable loaded from text file:
s = \\Users\Me\Desktop\photos\photo4.jpg"
so I can't "tell" flash to add another "\" if I cant find the "\" in the string... catch22
hmm.. true. catch 22... how does this path arrive at this text file? is there nothing you can do about the way the path is stored in the text file?
