    printing Thumbnails WITH page numbering...?

    wociechmazur.pl Community Member

      Hi.

Im working with a 72 page long magazine document.

Id like to have it all printed out on two sheets of A4 paper just for general revision and good look on what we have and what we miss in the document.

The thing is, Id like it to have page numbering attached to it.

The one that does attach is extremely small and is not visible in 7x7 format A4.

Now I know to go to File/Print, select thumbnails and spreads, print 7x7 on one page, adjust the orientation of the thumbnails and the print goes great.

However theres no way to add numbering to the thumbnails on the 7x7 sheet AND adjust its size... or is there?

Any clues on how to do that?

      Thanks in advance.

This is way out of my areas of expertise, but could you temporarily put a very large page number in the gutter on the master pages? You'd need to mske sure that the gutters are printed. Or, you could put a huge semi-transparent letter on its own layer in the center of each page, and show it only when printing the thumbnails.

Page numbering is automatic with thumbnails beginning with CS3 but the size is not adjustable, AFAIK.

              Hello Again.

Yeah I found a way around to make it work, with the very large numbers in the gutter of the masterpage, however I was hoping there was a automatic way to do that. Thanks guys!

Insert the page number marker (Type > Insert Special Character > Marker > Current Page Number in a text frame in the Slug area (Help > Slug) on the master page and enable (check) the ability to print the slug (Help > Print the bleed or slug areas.)

A related approach is to use conditional text (Help > Conditional Text) to control the visibility of the page number for the thumbnails printing, whether it's in the master page slug area, or elsewhere on the master page. You can either disable the slug area's printing to hide everything in the slug, or hide only the thumbnails page number, whether it's in the slug, or elsewhere on the master page, by hiding the condition.

                Regards,
