1. Re: Playing Blu Ray
Bill Hunt May 18, 2010 10:56 AM (in response to Dabalani)Encore is only an authoring program. One will need an additional program to playback BD. CyberLink's PowerDVD (newer versions) get high marks, and so does the freeware, MediaPlayer Classic HC.
Good luck,
Hunt

Larry Applegate May 18, 2010 11:55 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)There is no commercial Blu-ray player for Macintosh. However our forthcoming product BluStreak Tracer will simulate playback from unencrypted Blu-ray discs and folders, including from Encore:

3. Re: Playing Blu Ray
Dabalani May 18, 2010 12:08 PM (in response to Larry Applegate)I am running Windows 7.
I am puzzled why a DVD authoring program can't play DVDs and BD. How do you check your work? Similarly, creating ISO images and reading them back should be features of a DVD authoring program. Can it burn an ISO image to disk?
I am new to this, and find this quite odd. Perhaps there is a reason I am not aware of?

This is because it is an authoring program, and the DVD/BD is the final output.
There are tons of good DVD/BD software players available, and many are free.
Good luck,

5. Re: Playing Blu Ray
Dabalani May 18, 2010 2:45 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Like I said, I am new to this, but from my experience with other programs (Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Illustrator, Premiere and so on), they all can read their own output.
Btw, I am not aware of a single free program that can play Blu Ray, and after shelling out a lot of money for Production Premium I was hoping I could use it to (i) play back blu ray and (ii) open an ISO image file in Windows 7 (there may be free programs that can do the latter).

6. Re: Playing Blu Ray
Bill Hunt May 18, 2010 4:03 PM (in response to Dabalani)One way to look at it is - none of those programs can play a DVD, or BD either.
Now, does MediaPlayer Classic HC not work for you?
Good luck,
Hunt

7. Re: Playing Blu Ray
Dabalani May 18, 2010 6:51 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)I took a quick look at the website, and there is no mention of blu ray of BD.
That codec costs extra, due to licensing issues, as far as I know.
Presumably, the codec is present somewhere within Production Premium. Otherwise, how can you create blu ray movies (assuming that is a feature. I really haven't delved into this yet).

Bill Hunt May 18, 2010 8:44 PM (in response to Dabalani)Do you have the trial, by chance"
Otherwise, you should have all necessary CODEC's.
Good luck,
Hunt

9. Re: Playing Blu Ray
Dabalani Jun 7, 2010 8:38 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)I do not have the trial.
My question is whether it will play BluRay or not. I have not bought a Blu Ray player and will not do so until I know for sure that the Adobe software has this feature.

10. Re: Playing Blu Ray
Bill Hunt Jun 8, 2010 11:59 AM (in response to Dabalani)Adobe Encore does not have a BD player. It can author one, but cannot play one, once burned.
Good luck,
Hunt
