How to add text over a slice?

    letsjumpnow
      Hi all!

I just laid out my site in Photoshop/ImageReady and exported everything and imported it into Dreamweaver, and everything at that point is fine. However, the only way I know how to add a paragraph of text is by putting in a layer (over the slice where the text is to go).

This works fine except for the layer is "off" (mis-aligned) when I view the page in Firefox. I have the slice where the text is to be set at a specific size to accommodate the text, and would simply like to know the best and most precise way to make a paragraph here. Hope this makes sense!

      Thank you in advance!

Just wait. You're already on the wrong foot by allowing a graphics editor to
write your HTML. Such HTML is very fragile, and as soon as the shape of
your page content changes, your page will break.

Then you are truly in trouble. As soon as someone resizes the text in their
browser, or as soon as you look at a centering page, you will see
immediately why this approach is not a best practice one.

Let's see your page to start, please.

That's a very simple design. Just start over without Photoshop. Do everything in DW and as Murray suggested, avoid using layers.

agreed. i understand that you may be more comfortable using Photoshop, because you probably know that really well and are, apparently, new to Dreamweaver/web design. but you're going to have to learn how to design a site in Dreamweaver if you want your site to turn out good. the help files have all kinds of good info for beginners. just click on Help in the menu, then select Getting Started. there's also lots of books available. i'm sure someone here could suggest a good one!

in my experience, designing a website in any program other than one specifically made for designing websites just isn't a good idea. really, all programs should only be used for what they're made for, in my opinion. Photoshop is for photos/images/graphics, Word is for words, etc. etc. etc. you wouldn't use Photoshop to create a resume, would you? i know i wouldn't!

                  good luck!
