Making Dreamweaver links point to folder instead of index file

Hello all, I have a relatively simple question.

I'm developing a site using Dreamweaver CS4 and I'd like for my links to be cleaner and point to the folder rather than the index file within the folder, such as: http://www.example.com/link/ rather than http://www.example.com/link/index.php

Currently, whenever I make a hyperlink in Dreamweaver, I typically just select the index.php file and then manually edit it out to just get the folder name. Is there a way to do this by default in Dreamweaver? Furthermore, I'm not sure that by manually editing out the index.php file if I ever move/change the file Dreamweaver will appropriately update the links.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
