    Help with a symbol

    auctioneer Community Member

      Hi

I'm looking for some way to use-reuse a symbol or any other means of inserting a line at 45% the exact same length and width, the symbol needs to be consistent throughout the entire image no matter how many times it's used.  I'm attempting to show dimensions for a fireplace mantel on the back of a brochure.  I've included a part of the image to hopefully better show what I'm trying to achieve.  Anywhere a line meets at 90% I need to insert the 45% line to define the limit of measurement.  Hopefully I'm making sense ;-))

I'm using PS CS3...I have CS5 Design Ste but I haven't gotten into it just yet, however if I need to use it for this purpose, then so be it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks

      Bob

A Smart Object of the object can be copied multiple times and, if need be, they all be edited in one go – might that help?

How do I create a smart object?

I can draw the symbol with my pen tool and save as a symbol but the problem with this method is the symbol is not consistent, I can't draw it 12 times on the spec sheet and cannot get it exact every time.  I need a line on a 45% angel I can use multiple times on the spec sheet and each 45% line is precise.

Would it be possible a symbol is not what I'm looking for here?

Maybe create a seperate.psd on transparent background and simply clone for as many times I need to use this line?

            Thanks..

Just make a Layer of the element (by filling or applying a stroke the

path or …) and use Layer – Smart Objects – Convert to Smart Object.

Then duplicate, transform, warp, filter, whatever the SO-instances; on

double-clicking one you can edit the content and on saving those

changes they will be applied to every instance.

Thanks....it took me a while to figure out what you suggested, but once I got my head wrapped around it, and give it a try, it worked perfectly.

                Thanks again..
