You're making us shoot in the dark otherwise.
I solved the problem by deleting the files with the missing headers and going back to DW
where I deleted the original JPG image from the style sheet and then entered it again and saved again. Then I uploaded the files again, and the headers are there now. I am not sure why the header images did not show up in the first place. At least the header images are there now, and I am happy. It often helps to delete and do it again, sometimes even turning off the computer. Thanks.

I resolved the problem though by deleteting the header image and then inserting it all over again. 18 pages. Sigh. But it worked. I am beginning to see that I really must create a template or a library item. But I am still getting my feet wet and am not ready to take dives yet.
Learn to use Server-Side Includes (SSIs) with or without DWTemplates.
They will save you hours of time when you need to update your site.
