MediaLayer.dll crashes when using PE 7

    kibobella

I have spent hours trying to overcome the problem of frequent crashing at MediaLayer and hours reading through the forum articles but no where can I find out what, how and why crashes occur in this file, does anyone know?

Unfortunately, we will need a lot more info on your system, your OS, your Project Preset, your source footage, and what you are doing, when you get the crash. This ARTICLE will give you tips on what would be very useful.

Good luck, and let us have more info please.

Dear Bill, How do I send you all the information you ask for, it is too much to retype but I have it in Wordpad but cannot find a way of posting it on this forum.   Do you have an email address I can send to?

That would be called "copy and paste" and don't send to Hunt... post here so everyone may view and come up with ideas

At one time, we had a Attach File feature, that worked perfectly for this sort of data transfer. Unfortunately, some users were attaching all sorts of nefarious files, so Adobe disabled it, and is working to patch the security aspect of it. That is a work in progress, and obviously Adobe has not felt that they have completed the work, as we do not yet have it back.

In the meantime, I'd do as John T. suggests, and just Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V to get the highlights of your DOC file into a reply. We'll just read down and try to find things that do not match up, or something missing.

Sorry that the Attach File function is disabled, 'cause it worked so well for situations like this.

                Good luck,

                  Hi Folks,

Sorry for the delay, however better late than never here is all the

information I could gather ... I hope that it is not too much!

                  PROBLEMS WITH PREMIERE ELEMENTS 7

*The only work I do on this computer is video editing, and when I do this It

is disconnected from networks and the virus protection software is disabled.

I have run a utioity to minimize the number of programmes that run on start

up and yet I frequently get the message that PE7 is running low on memory...

this in spite of having 4Gb installed with the swap files set to 12 Gb on

each drive. PE 7 is installed on drive C which has 124 Gb free, video and

other files are on drive D with 112 Gb free and also on drive K which has

1.13 Tb free. The problems I have experienced have occurred over a variety

of my projects, but the current one has (showing on the time line) 55

minutes of HDvideo, 12 jpg images and 12 jpg scans. I progressed the project

by saving frequently after adding each title and menu element, so that I was

able to make progress past the crashes only to be frustrated at the end by

the application crashing when trying to burn onto dvd. I have updated the

Nvidia drivers and also the Quick Time programme, prior to the following

incidents. I have also uninstalled and re-installed PE 7 twice.*

*Given that these crashes have occurred with a variety of projects I do not

think that it is caused by this particular set of assets. The video camera

is a Canon HF10 with flash memory and the files are loaded using Canon's

Imagemixer software and then loaded into PE 7 from the PC files.*

What do you think is going wrong?

Am searching for an answer to this problem here too, Have just encounted a client having this exact problem including the same exception offsets and so on.

One of their machines is a dual core Intel with 3GB ram and 1TB free HDD, the other is a Quad core with 3GB ram and 2TB free HDD.

Both run Windows 7 32bit and get the same messages regarding running low on system memory and the crashes although the crashes seem more frequent when putting an image onto the time line perhaps coincidence?

Anyway, any help would be most appreciated.

Here are some other threads with a common element:

Considering the other .dll's, that are also faulting, I have two thoughts:

1.) something that is probably loaded at boot up is either not reporting its memory usage properly, or is informing the OS that it has released certain memory addresses, when it has not.

2.) the installation of PrE has become corrupted. If possible, I would try a Repair Install, and if not, I would uninstall, run a Registry cleaner, like Ccleaner (do the Registry backup, when prompted), and reinstall PrE.

                        Good luck,

Thank you Bill for your response, I have read all of the links you

attached.   in respect to your suggestions I have carried 'suggestion 2'

twice over.   With suggestion 1 I have subsequent to the appearance of these

difficulties cleaned out my 'start up list' and I usually disable the virus

software (Avast) and this computer is rarely connected to the internet and

never when using PE software.   I notice that there are some hints that some

have found it better to work on several small files first and then stitch

them together before the final rendering.   My current project started off

with about 2 hours of video, is this likely to  be a problem or is this not

relevant?   What does MediaLayer.dll do?  Is it an Adobe created file or is

it a Windows file?   One thing that does worry me a little is that whenever

I open PE7 it builds a library of thumbnails of all the videos I have on the

computer.   It does this even though I reduce the number of thumbnails

visible by specifying the particular project I am working on.   This

facility must consume RAM, would it be possible/helpful to disable it.

I notice from a number of comments in the forum and elsewhere on the net

that Adobe appears to have a 'hard nosed' attitude to its customers.    I

too object to having to pay for a service call, but would consider doing

so if there was a guarantee that they would work on it until my problem was

resolved.   It is a shame that they do not a 'product recall' system forced

upon them as the car manufacturers do!    Do all of the video editing

programmes have problems, which of them are more reliable?

                          Regards,

                          Kibobella

I have 5 copies of MediaLayer.dll on my laptop, one for each of my Adobe Video, or Audio editing programs.

A .dll, is a Dynamic Link Library, and contains code that is used by the program to perform certain operations. It is called by that program, when needed.

I do not know what is enclosed in the MediaLayer.dll, but as I see it in PrE, Premiere, Encore, Audition, etc., would assume that it contains info/code for both Audio & Video.

                            Good luck,

I am assuming from your reply that you can see no obvious cause of the

frequent shut downs I am experiencing from PE 7 from the respect of my

hardware resources.   Would this be a valid assumption?
