Have you tried just opening the file normally from CS5?
Or (what corresponds to the Windows options) DoubleClicking the file, or RightClicking and Open With and choosing CS5?

yes just open it normally.Illustrator should still be able to open them with some legacy content warnings.
Since you ae upgrading to Illustrator version after 14 long years I must say lot has changes since then

Thanks to you both! I hadnt selected the proper line in the dialog box when it asked what to use to open the file. I did get the legacy warning, but it opened just fine! Now I get to transfer 14 years of artwork from FLOPPY DISC (!) to flash drives...the advancements are great :-)
