Bridge selectively ignores JPGs in Review Mode

    wociechmazur.pl Community Member

      hello.

      I have this issue :

      http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/6060/60232032.jpg

and after restarting the review mode:

      http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/1466/37671094.jpg

as you can see, Bridge selectively denies to render jpg images in review mode.

This happens in various catalogues, with photos made with different cameras, I really see no pattern here.

If I press Escape, return to main view and then again go into Review Mode, Bridge refreshes the missing photos and renders them correctly HOWEVER he then picks up a new set of images from the same folder, he chooses to ignore. The very same pictures he displayed normaly the first time.

      any ideas?

I am still on CS3 so do not have Review Mode.  However, it appears to

be a graphic intensive mode and as such may put heavy load on the video card.  Make sure you have the latest dirvers.  Also try "use software renedeing" in the advanced preferences.

You might also disable OpenGL in Photoshop and see if that corrects the problem.

            Hello!

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately it doesnt solve my problem. The anomaly mentioned above occures despite hardware / software acceleration.

I have a new computer with latest drivers and windows 7 with all updates.

If you purge the cache for the folder (tools/cache/purge cache for xx folder) does that change anything?

Also, in Preview do jpeg's display normallly?

                hi!

I ve purged the cache folder, no change.

yeah the jpgs display normaly in preview mode.

Also in brief view, the thumbnails are generated properly.

                One thing I noticed:

when I go to review mode, I can see the circle of photos forming and Bridge reading them.

For a brief second I can see that some photos are flickering, they are rendered in full size, and then disappear.

Its like he reads them, some of the photos that are marked by the camera that were made in vertical angle, are rotated automaticly, and then some are rendered and then just disapear.

                  Are you using CS5?

                  What graphics card?

Try using the lowest footprint thumbnail (Quick or jpeg from camera) to reduce the strain on the graphics card.  Then purge the cache for one folder and try it again.  Another test to see if it is the graphics card not being able to keep up.

                    Hi again!

                    Im using CS4,

My gfx is nVidia GeForce 9800 GT with 1gb of onboard memory.

Ive done what you told, but no change Im afraid. Some of the jpgs keep disapearing.

Has this worked before as you expect it to?

A read on the web some of the features of CS4.  In one screen shot they showed a carosel of pictures much like you have on your screen shot.  The "dimmed out" thumbs were called "in the background", and clicking on them would bring them to the foreground as a primary image.

Perhaps you are seeing something similar with the jpeg images that are not fully rendered.  They are just "in the background" and that is how the review mode works?  Just a thought.

no, Im afraid this is not the case...

Ive seen it work perfectly on my home Dell laptop,

but my desktop at work has some issues I ve already described above.

This must be some picture rendering / memory issue... perhaps Windows 7

fault. I use Vista 64 on the laptop, everything works perfectly fine there.

I dont know, im really tired with trying to solve this out.

Pains though, since review mode is extremly efficient in fast image

sorting. Oh well.... guess I need to pass on this one, since Im clearly

the only one with the issue. Perhaps future system wipe will solve it,

when the maintance time will come. Its up to IT guys now I guess.

Curt, thank you very much for your tireless commitment to solve this one

                          Hey everyone!

                          I just solved my problem!

As it turnes out it wasnt Bridge Fault, but a system one.

                          Im using Vista 7 x64

I have downloaded this nifty tool:

                          http://www.mysticcoder.net/mysticthumbs.html

To have the ability to thumbnail my AI, EPS, and PDF files. (Great tool btw)

WHen I was browsing through settings panel, Ive noticed this little box that indicated Windows was allowing to Thumbnail images only up to a size of 4096 pixels. Everything greater than that was ignored.

Thats why Bridge couldnt do it - the system wouldnt let it.

Using Mystic Thumbnails software I have changed it up to 10.000 pixels and now, Bridge renders every image as it should.

Perhaps there is a way to solve this one without installing any software, propably in some windows config or registry, but I dont have the knowledge to do so.

                          Again, thanks to CurtY.

And hope that helps everyone in the future.
