Today I shot a few images with my digital camera, then used the Canon software to load them to to my computer, which runs Windows 7 x64. The Canon software created a folder named 2010_05_31 in the directory C:\CanonPowerShot and downloaded the files. Windows Explorer sees both the folder and files.
I started PSE8, chose Organize, then did a Ctl-Shift-G to catalog the new images. Organizer is in the Thumbnail view. I navigated to C:\CanonPowerShot and scrolled down the window to find folder 2010_05_31. Oops, the list ends at 2010_05_13, the last folder I had cataloged in Organizer.
I cancelled the import and switched Organizer to the Folder Location View. Since I had previously catalogued folders from C:\CanonPhowerShot, all the folders were listed in the left hand pane - including the new folder 2010_05_31. I right clicked on the 2010_05_31 folder icon and selected the import function. The files were imported correctly.
I went back to the Thumbnail view, again clicked Ctl-Shift-G, and navigated to the C:\CanonPowerShot directory. Once again the folder list ended with folder 2010_05_13. This time I looked through the entire list of 75 folders and found the 2010_05_31 folder second from the top, listed between folders 2004_09_30 and 2004_10_01. In other words, it is out of collating sequence.
To summerize: when trying to add images using the Get Photos and Videos from Files and Folders, the window to select the folders is not in proper collating sequence. The folders are in proper collating sequence in Windows Explorer. The folders are in proper collating sequence in left hand pane in the Organizer Folder Location View - both before and after import. The only non-alphanumeric character in the folder names is the underscore (_) character; there are no periods (.).
Since the folder is listed in the proper collating sequence in both Windows Explorer and in the left hand panel of the Organizer Folder Location View, I doubt there is an non-displayable character in the name.
Has anyone else seen this problem? How does one report these bugs to Adobe, or should I even bother?
