Mac with PS CS5 Extended.
My usual routine: After taking out the original background using the magic wand, I fill it with white, then inverse it for transparency, then feather my object with at least 2 points to smooth edges. When it’s over 2 points, it seems to leave a white, or ghost, outline.
I know about the “Refine Edges” box but am not exactly sure about using it. It doesn’t seem like the smoothing tool does much for jaggies like feathering does. It would be so good if it did.
Sometimes, to eliminate this ghost outline, I go back and carefully erase a great deal of the feathering, This seems like a waste of time. There must be something I can do right the first time.
Maybe I’m not using the magic wand (or direct select tool) to their best advantage.
Please help. Thank you.
Try skipping the fill with white part.
