    Smart Object

      2 questions about Smart Objects--

      1. Is there anyway to import a smart object at 100%.  Smart object just seem to import at whatever size they want to.

      2. Is there a way to keep the link to the orginal file, rather than the smart object creating a new temporary file?

      Thanks

          1) I think Photoshop usually tries to scale them to fill the image, as a work-around one can manually enter 100% in the entry fields in the Options Bar. (Other than that one might possibly be able to automate the task with Actions or Scripts.)

          2) No. And I for one am quite content with this behaviour.

Edit: Someone was trying to set up a Scripting-solution that would store the position of the original files in the metadata to be later on used to replace the content automatically; but I don’t know if those plans ever came to fruition and I can’t locate the thread at the moment.

Smart Objects honor the physical print dimensions relative to the base document.

So if the base is 4 x 6 at 150 ppi and the placed smart object is 2 x 3 at 300 ppi - IOW the same pixel dimensions - the smart object will still come in filling exactly one quadrant.

I don't know of any way to make smart objects honor pixel dimensions. But then of course you could just copy/paste and then convert to smart object.
