Does this happen even with mac projectors created from Windows or just projectors created from Macs? Does it happen with projectors created from earlier versions of Flash?
This is on the Mac. If I open the SWF in FP 10.1.52.14 and do a File > Create Projector, the Projector created works fine. Just not out of the IDE itself, which is strange.
Previous versions (CS4, CS3, etc.) always work perfectly well for me. The File Association thing is troublesome as well.
What's the name of the StandAlone Player at this location?
/Applications/Adobe Flash CS5/Players/
Note that it should be "Flash Player.app" for the Mac StandAlone Player. If you want to create a debug projector and copy the Debug/Flash Player Debugger.app file into the /Applications/Adobe Flash CS5/Players/ folder, you will need to rename the file to Flash Player.app
It is indeed Flash Player.app. Version 10.1.52.14.
However it doesn't seem to be working for Projector creation from the IDE.
I don't actually need a Debug version of the player, is that my only solution to get a working Projector out of the IDE? Could the Flash Player.app in my /Applications/Adobe Flash CS5/Players/ be corrupt or something?
Try deleting /Applications/Adobe Flash CS5/Players/Flash Player.app and then copying the version from /Applications/Adobe Flash CS5/Players/Release/Flash Player.app into /Applications/Adobe Flash CS5/Players/ folder.
Okay, I did that. The Projector was created faster, but it still won't launch correctly. I see the Flash Player in the OS menu, I see the Projector in the App Switcher UI (command-Tab), but nothing displays or plays audio.
Update: Creating a test Projector in Flash CS4 now does the same thing for me. Launch the projector, but won't really launch.

Does this happen even with a simple FLA file that just has a blue square on stage? Where are you saving the file? Does it work if you save the FLA in a brand new folder?
If you control-click on the projector and show package contents, what's in it?
Have you tried restarting already?
Fails with the simple blue square on stage (that was my test file). I saved to my desktop. I have also tried saving to a server.
Inside the Projector:
MacOS folder > Flash Player.app
Resources > localized proj, Flash Player.rsrc, .icns files
I'll try a restart. This is really strange.
Restart fixed nothing.
Can you try saving the FLA into an empty folder instead of the Desktop? Also, have you updated the default FLA classpath and/or the global classpath? What are your Publish Settings set to?
Finally, does it happen with an AS 2.0 FLA as well?
Some other trouble-shooting ideas are to see if it works when you launch Flash from a different user account. If so, then try deleting your Flash CS5 preferences and your user-config folders:
/Users/<user>/Library/Preferences/Flash CS5 Preferences
/Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS5
Source Path: .
Library Path: $(AppConfig)/ActionScript 3.0/libs, textLayout.swc - $(AppConfig)/ActionScript 3.0/libs/11.0
empty folder didn't make a difference.
AS2 didn't make a difference
I removed the requested folders, one thing I noticed is that I had an "en" and "en_US" - went back to default, still the same problem.
I have the same problem. Using CS5 on Snow Leopard, the flash projectors dont launch.
Have you come to any solution??
Nope. .swfs open in some Standalone Projector I made a year ago, not the SA Flash Player like they should, I have to right-click Open With and select the latest FP. If I change to always open with, it immediately changes back to the stupid projector.
Most of the time CS5 projectors I make DON'T open at all.
Yes, its weird... I have this problem at the office, but at home with the same OSx and CS5 it works fine.
I just dont know what it is. Im gonna have to re install the imac
Did you ever sort this out? I have exactly the same issue with CS4. Everything has been publishing fine for years - then out of the blue this has happened.
When I log in as another user it publishes and runs OK. I can also publish OK from my Macbook (same software). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the complete CS4 suite and I also deleted the preference files mentioned in this discussion - again, no change.
I have no idea what else to try. It's driving me mad!
Do you mean you just put them in the Trash and then emptied the Trash so they were totally gone? I'll do that anyway and see what happens.......
Just to let you know that the projector still didn't work after completely clearing my trash sadly.
I then tried the following method suggested by dycusycus
- control-click on the published .app file, and select "show package contents"
- open the "contents" then the "resources" folder
- there should be an .swf file in there. Re-name it "movie.swf"
- close everything and try running the app
There was no swf in my contents at all, so I just need to remember to publish a swf as well as the projector, make sure it's named movie.swf and drop it in. It's such a weird problem, and really frustrating. This hack will at least save me a lot of time as I won't need to log in as another user or transfer files back and forth from my Macbook. Maybe one day it will magically work again by itself!
Thanks for your help in the meantime
