As PrE 8 has been out for most of a year (the normal life-span for a PrE version), it might be difficult.
However, some legit resellers might still have copies of PrE 7 around. I would use Google to try and find these. There are some "old software" companies, that specialize in legal, discontinued software versions.
Be very, very wary of anything on eBay, Craig's List, etc., as you might not get what you are paying for.
PS - if you do find a legit reseller (certified by Adobe), please post the URL.
I've been on google but having trouble finding a legit one to download.
Is there any way I can copy the version off my one computer and put that on my new one?
But there are a number of legit copies available on Amazon.com.
Amazon is where I just bought the one I am having trouble with. Any thoughts on my issue of not being able to capture HDV with PE7 on Windows 7?
well, all my drivers have been updated. Alienware suggested that I might be missing a codec. Any ideas?
Well, after 7 hours, this is what has happened;
- I have installed PE8 on the new computer and I still have the same problem:
I can capture HDV but i get green stripes and digital interference when i play it back after capture.
I will appreciate any and all suggestions before I throw the Alienware off the balcony.
What has been shown in a few recent cases (makes me wonder if a recent update of Windows or Graphics driver is causing the problem) is to share the clip to re-writeable DVD or DV-AVI file and see if the output looks good in playback on a real DVD Player. If it does it means we are dealing just with display issues and nothing more serious.
Insanity is hereditary, you get it from your children
- I have rendered and shared the corupted HDV capture and it still has the same problem
- IF I bring in a PE7 project from my old computer to the new computer it works fine. All video plays perfectle.
- I used "HDV SPlit" to capture on the new computer, and still had the same problem, which tells me that it is not a software problem
COULD this be a codec problem? If so, how do I find the right codec and install it?
Any help would be appreciated, since I am very frustrated and ready to send the new computer back to Alienware. What a shame, because it is super fast!
PROBLEM IS RESOLVED!
I downloaded "HDV Split", messed with the settings under mpeg2, and that solved the problem.
If you hear of anyone having HDV capture problems with PE7 and Windows 7 send them my way!
Thank you for all of your input.
Great news and thank you for reporting. Others will benefit in the future!
I had looked at that post, and saw that Jeff and Ann were on the case, along with Jeremy from Adobe. I had nothing to add, but will follow along. There was a similar post recently, and I saw that it was linked to. If I do run across something useful, I'll certainly add it to that thread.
