Recent convert from GoLive, moderate understanding of CSS. My first guess was that "clearfloat" placed after tag might have something to do with giving it a bottom (lower) limit but either that's a wrong assumption or I had placed it improperly.
First use of forums, and I have searched FAQ's and other sources without any "bright light" coming on, (at my age though, I'd accept a dim light).

You willl probably still need to clear before the footer but you might be able to just put your clear rule on the footer itself.
