What is your Windows version?
What is the version of your MSVCP80.dll?
You can find the latest version of the VC80 CRT (for 32-bit Windows) here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=32BC1BEE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A19 1EE
Sorry, here is a newer one http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=200B2FD9-AE1A-4A14-984D-389C36F85 647
Run Microsoft Update after installing the latest VC80 CRT to apply any available security updates.
Thanks for the response. My version of windows is XP 32 bit and the latest version of the file I'm running is 8.0.50727.762.
Unfortunatly the download didn't solve the problem. After reinstalling c++, I tried uninstalling all visial c++ from add/remove programs, installing the package, updating as suggested, I even tried uninstalling all the visual c++ and deleting the relevent files left over, only this broke pretty much every program on the system, with a 'failed to launch application properly 0x0000034' error. Did a system restore and back to square one. Any other ideas?
Never go and manually delete any system files! Lucky you had a system restore point to restore.
The latest patched version of msvcp80.dll is 8.0.50727.4053, but I think all recent versions of that DLL should have the "missing" entry point.
Could it be that Adobe Reader picks up a very old version of that module? Can you do a search for msvcp80.dll on your system, and check the version & date of each?
I've got 4 on here.
1. 536kb 23/09/2005 Version 8.0.50727.42
2. 536kb 01/12/2006 Version 8.0.50727.762
3. 545kb 25/07/2008 Version 8.0.50727.3053
4. 542kb 12/07/2009 Version 8.0.50727.4053
It looks like I do have the latest version you described afterall.
Ah, but where is that one?
Anyway, I'm starting to think that maybe something is wrong with your Adobe Reader
?str@?$basic_ostringstream@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@V?$allocator@D@2@@std@@QBE?AV? $basic_string@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@V?$allocator@D@2@@2@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCP80.dll.
If the system is looking for that entry point in msvcp80.dll, then it will not find it, whatever version you have.
At this point I would suggest that you uninstall Adobe Reader 9.3 completely, then reinstall it and update to 9.3.1 and 9.3.2.
Unfortunatl The location of the latest version is C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-ww_e6967989
y I have already tried the uninstall and updates. I have just discovered I get the same entry point error opening iTunes helper, so it appears its a problem with c++ rather than anything else. I have no idea where to get support for that.
