Bill Hunt Jun 8, 2010 1:13 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Stanley,
I caught that thread, but was blushing too much to respond intelligently.
Now, the dilemma is, what wine goes with Yoodles? I'm thinking a NZ Sauvignon Blanc? Perhaps we can get Craig (ShooterNZ) to donate from his Cloudy Bay stash.

Mitchell Lopez Jun 8, 2010 4:47 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Oh great, now I find out today was Bill Hunt Day.
If I had known, I wouldn’t have showered and shaved this morning, and gone to work. Instead I would have gone to the beach; BBQ’d, chase Betties, and started drinking beer at 9am.
By this time of the day I would be calling someone up to drive me home, and then telling them they need ride their bike back to the beach with my car keys, to bring my car back.
Was today a paid holiday? And if I did work, do I get Holiday pay, AND pay for ignorantly showing up to work?

Is there a conflict there?
Get up, stumble in to the kitchen, make coffee. Crack open laptop, slam beer, flip ribs. Rinse and repeat.
Happy day, B-man. -

As referenced in many of the "Rumpole Of The Bailey" books ( John Mortimer )...the inexpensive " Thames Embankment Ordinary " is good enough for ME.... or whatever
HAPPY BILL DAY !

Bill Hunt Jun 9, 2010 9:26 AM (in response to able123)Now I'm not sure. Along the Thames Embankment, Westminster side, I have had some really "ordinary" wines, though the prices did not reflect such. Though a couple of blocks over, on The Strand, I have encountered some wonderful FR whites, that might work too.

Bill Hunt Jun 9, 2010 5:21 PM (in response to able123)You know what worries me the most - "snakes in a fridge!" Now, if they are in there long enough, their cold-blooded nature will slow them down significantly, but they might get one strike on ya.
Another photographer, un-named, did a great ad with some frogs. Things were absolutely perfect. I asked him about how he managed that (pre-PS days), as the frogs were exquisite and posed just right in the shot. He answered, "we just put them in the fridge for a couple of hours... "

13. Re: Bill Hunt Day
able123 Jun 10, 2010 6:00 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Interesting frog story....
This is true:
When very young we had pet snakes ( rare ones from Long Island that all the suburban building was killing off ).
We discovered a way to feed them by tricking them. They normally eat live frogs.
We would order frogs by mail order ( or go hunt them at night )...and put each frog in a plastic bag, and freeze them....we didn't feel too bad about this method of killing them as they went to sleep first and then just froze....
Then, when it was time to feed the snake ( once every couple weeks I think ---hard to remember ) we would defrost a frog and put chop meat into the frog to fatten it up ( freezing tended to shrink them a bit...and the chop meat made it more visually appealing as well as being more healthy for the snake...
Then we would take the stuffed frog and pull it by a leg or something in front of the snake to make it look like it was a live frog jumping around in it's cage...a talent you get better at the more you do it....you have to think a little like a frog when pulling it around or the snake ignores it...
Once it strikes you let go of the frog and it gets ate up by the snake....
After a number of years we grew older and lost interest in the now large snakes and donated them to the Bronx Zoo. They were thrilled to get such nice big healthy specimens...and asked how we had fed them, as they didn't have much luck with their specimens of the same species....didn't live long and didn't eat well, etc...
The Bronx Zoo thereafter adapted our method of feeding our snakes and maybe some of its other snakes !
Rod
ps. Our snakes had 2 ways to defend itself... both of them pretty silly if you ask me....
1) flatten neck and rise up and hiss ......looking exactly like a cobra ! However, it woud not bite ....if it didn't scare you away it was sorta lost after that.
2) play dead ......just roll over on back and lay there and not move..... yet another silly method of little use.

Bill Hunt Jun 11, 2010 4:11 PM (in response to jeremy d.)Ah, now Thai basa might be might go well with an IPA, or perhaps a Rosé sparkler/Champagne, or maybe a Kabinet Riesling.
For the mutter, I'm really not sure. With smashed peas (usually with me fish and chips), I rather fancy something like a Strongbow cider. That goes well with the cider vinegar on the fish and chips too.
OK, so we add a few ciders too. Heck, I'm easy.

Bill Hunt Jun 12, 2010 8:05 AM (in response to able123)Yeah, I hate fish heads, that look at me that way. Went to a big charity event at the New Orleans Aquarium, some years ago. Our tables were set around one of the large tanks, with picture-windows, looking into the tank. My back was to one of those, and the menu was all seafood. Just after I was served, I glanced over my shoulder, as I felt that I was being watched. In that picture-window it appeared that every fish in the tank was there, staring at me. I could swear that they all had tears in their eyes, as they surveyed my plate. Had I just been served their best friend, Harry?!?!?!

ps....if you can rent it or whatever...I think you'd love seeing that movie with Downey...he'll never do anything better and technically I thought the movie was really great....you would love it !
