Sure, for DV and maybe HDV, but not for AVCHD or other demanding codecs. At least assuming the rest of your system is also up to it. You don't give much to go on, so start with the source material, from what camera, with what codec and how was it ingested? What are the details on the rest of your system, especially your disk setup.

I'm actually doing it for a company that have hired a top end camera
and they have then converted the tapes to a file for me to play with,
i believe I have been given a .mov file?! I'm away from my machine
this evening so can't tell you much more!
They just need it cut up and sent back in a format that they can
upload to their site, I thought it was going to be an easy editing job
like using something like final cut but I'm having huge problems...
Can you help anymore from that or do you need more info?
