Does this work locally?
If so: Is the video definitely uploaded? I tried to hit http://www.dettwyler.org/RooftopRites.flv and I get a 404 error. It appears as though the SWF is loading correctly (if you right-click you get the Flash right-click menu, and no errors appear - also, if you roll over the bottom area it appears as though the skin is appearing)
If the video is definitely up there and in the correct location:
Is the server set-up to serve up FLV files? If you maintain the server, check for the FLV MIME-TYPE - if you don't, ask whoever does to do so. That is the typical culprit in cases like these, where it appears as though the SWF is loading correctly, but the video isn't displaying.
Do you mean that I have to upload the FLV file, too?
Yes, you need to upload the FLV file as well.
So, on the server you need:
Dang. Ok. One sec :-)
No, the embed statement isn't necessary (the swf and skin wouldn't be displaying otherwise)
It appears to me as though the FLV MIME-TYPE is not set up on the server. Contact your webhost, or server administrator to get that checked out.
Sorry but why do I now see rooftoprites and not test? all files exist in root directory. I must be an idiot, I think.
Probably because, when I decompile the test.swf that you put up for that page, the path to the FLV is:
"8 Minute Madness 2010/RooftopRites.flv"
whereas, the path to the FLV in RooftopRites.swf is:
Fix the paths and it looks like you are in business.
thanks again for your assistance.
All links inside of the SWF need to be relative to the location of the HTML file.
So, it looks like you moved the video files into a folder cvalled: "index_html_files" but did not update the paths in the SWF to point at that folder. (As I try to hit the FLV directly, it appears as though it is in both locations, so the FLV still loads from the root, next to the HTML at the moment)
The paths should be:
.skin = "index_html_files/MinimaFlatCustomColorAll.swf";
.source = "index_html_files/RooftopRites.flv";
OK - so I have to republish? Makes sense. I should be good, and thanks for staying with me.
I hate to bother you :-) but I checked the publish settings and reuploaded the swf. What else do I have to upload again? The FLV? How do I decompile the SWF to see what you see?
My guess is you wrote no code for this at all?
If so, select the video component that displays on the stage in Flash, go to the "Parameters" panel, and you will see a list of parameters for the component.
In this list you will see skin and source. Change the right side of each of these to be what I put in my last reply and republish. The file will not work locally once you do this.
Optionally, you can simply move the skin file back out to the root of the server, next to the HTML, and it will work as-is.
I changed the skin path to custom path index_html_files/SkinOverAll.swf and republished. I copied my files to the server. I am not a programmer but this shouldn't be this difficult.
Hi. I am confused. I used to make flash movies and only have to publish the SWF files to the web server. I never had to upload the FLV. Why am I doing that now?
If I have Publish Settings as follows:
The skin is default and FLV is in the Dettwyler directory, how come the skin doesn't appear? Everything exports to the directory.
If you point me to a tutorial which describes these things, I'll stop pestering you
Thanks for your forbearance,
And lastly, I just tried everything with a new directory. SWF and HTML point to E:\Movies\test. The skin was selected and not modified. Everything published to the target directory. The movie plays and yet, there is no skin.
I am going nuts!
AHA! If I make the 70 px smaller, then the skin is visible.
