What do you mean by Activate Timeline?

Those terms mean nothing to me (us) so maybe you should explain in a little more detail what you are doing and the steps you are taking to do it.

Have you glanced at the Help File (manual) at all?  (Its a pdf file)

if you dont have a timeline yet just hit file new timeline.

then double click it to open it and drag footage to it.

Is that what you wanted ?

if you dont have a timeline yet just hit file new timeline.

Careful--this is a commonly misused nomenclature, at least in regard to Premiere. It's a "potato/potato" sort of thing.

In Premiere parlance, sequence refers to the project item that contains edited media, whereas timeline refers to the panel which contains one or more sequences. In this case, the OP has the Timeline panel open, but no sequence created or loaded into. Instead of "new timeline" (which does not exist as a command within the Premiere interface), the OP needs the "new sequence" command, menu item, or button...

                Thanks for saying that Colin.

I just got back from a movie ( KILLERS ) and Prime Rib dinner and am typing full.   lol

                So true, sequence it is.

First, thanks lot for your reply! I have been in this production rackety for a while, sorry if I didn't ask the question right...

I installed a new CS5 Production Premium software today, box came yesterday. The timeline panel is open, but no video or audio tracks are indicated. I imported a couple of clips which I can open in the source window, but can't drag them into the timeline. I've used Pro 2.0 for too many years to care to remember, so I know what this is supposed to look like. It's probably pilot error, but how can I turn the timeline active??

                  Thanks, Andrew

Hi Glenn, looked under File, but there is no timeline option I

                    can see...but thanks!

As Colin said I used the wrong word.

                      Hit file new Sequence.

then double click that sequence and then drag your footage to it.

it really has to do with knowing the correct word.

once you know the correct word to search for all falls into place.

if looking for the wrong word you can spend hours not finding what you want.

                          Have fun:  GLenn
