Missteach Jun 14, 2010 3:51 PM (in response to Missteach)Hello,
I've never had to contact support before so I might be looking in the wrong place. Just looked at what I assume is contact support but it states I have to buy a support plan !!!! Surely this can't be right! The prog isn't working. I don't want to pay even more to get it working as advertised.

John T Smith Jun 14, 2010 3:56 PM (in response to Missteach)>driver NVIDIA windows kernel mode driver, version 197.59
Try a different nVidia driver... either newer or older... to see if that fixes the problem

Missteach Jun 14, 2010 4:11 PM (in response to John T Smith)Hello John,
Thanks but won't this make the smooth running of PPCS5 and AECS5 problematic?
As far as I know I have the latest nVIDIA driver. I'll double check now.
Cheers

5. Re: PS CS5 32 and 64 bit constantly crashing
Noel Carboni Jun 14, 2010 4:16 PM (in response to Missteach)Display drivers are in a constant state of flux nowadays. With the recent release of Photoshop CS5 they probably are all scrambling to make sure their drivers and firmware/hardware all work properly with the new Adobe release. It's been my observation that nVidia seems to take a little longer to settle their drivers down than ATI.
New drivers are being released all the time, and with an expensive and modern workstation card like the FX3800, feedback from users will probably spur immediate development at nVidia to fix the problem. I'd report the problem to nVidia right away.

6. Re: PS CS5 32 and 64 bit constantly crashing
Chris Cox Jun 14, 2010 7:32 PM (in response to Missteach)Yeah, it's a driver problem.
If the most recent NVidia driver doesn't work, then you need to contact NVidia and let them know that they have more bugs to fix.

7. Re: PS CS5 32 and 64 bit constantly crashing
Missteach Jun 15, 2010 9:08 AM (in response to Missteach)I updated to the latest driver this morning - still the same problem happens. Photoshop is totally useless in this state. I'll email them but if it is an NVIDIA problem how is it that Adobe recommend the card? I only spent the £730 on the card because I saw it recommended on Adobe's site.
Anyone else use this card? What driver version do you use? Anyone have a stable system with it?
What really puzzles me though is that it's the same graphics card that crashes Photoshop CS5 but manages to run Premiere Pro CS5 and After Effects CS5 without any problem whatsoever. Does this mean NVIDIA will simply state it's an Adobe issue?

8. Re: PS CS5 32 and 64 bit constantly crashing
Chris Cox Jun 15, 2010 9:16 AM (in response to Missteach)Different apps use different features of the GPU.
Since other users are not seeing that card crash so often, my guess is that there is a driver conflict or you may have a defective card.

Missteach Jun 15, 2010 9:19 AM (in response to Chris Cox)Anyone know how to contact NVIDIA in the UK? I've just looked at their website but there is no contact information! How on earth do I report a problem to them?

1. Lowering the OpenGL Advanced mode from Normal to Basic?

Missteach Jun 15, 2010 1:35 PM (in response to Noel Carboni)Hello Noel,
Yes, I tried switching off OpenGL in preferences but it didn't make any difference. Still crashes occur within seconds of trying to do anything.
Sorry, I'm not sure what the list is on the NVIDIA page you sent me to. I'd seen that page but couldn't see how to contact NVIDIA directly. That contact page seems to redirect you to other companies. I was under the impression NVIDIA made the card. Am I misunderstanding something obvious?
It's an NVIDIA Quatro FX3800. Does someone else make them and sell them to NVIDIA?
Thanks from a confused non-photoshop user !!! Any help appreciated.

12. Re: PS CS5 32 and 64 bit constantly crashing
Charlie Choc Jun 15, 2010 2:48 PM (in response to Missteach)NVIDIA makes the chipsets which other manufacturers use in their cards and motherboards, NVIDIA doesn't make the cards themselves.

13. Re: PS CS5 32 and 64 bit constantly crashing
Missteach Jun 15, 2010 3:14 PM (in response to Charlie Choc)Oh, OK. Well, I have a NVIDIA Quadro FX800. How do I find out who makes it? And, how / who do I ask for better drivers - seeing as the responses so far to this thread state categorically it's a driver issue.
Now I'm confused.

14. Re: PS CS5 32 and 64 bit constantly crashing
Noel Carboni Jun 15, 2010 3:35 PM (in response to Missteach)The very last thing in my post above is an eMail address: technical@abitcomputer.co.uk
I suggest you eMail them and ask if they can help you determine why your nVidia driver crashes when you run Photoshop. As Chris has mentioned, the card could just be faulty. No doubt they'll tell you how to test it.
Meanwhile, you could consider trying what other people with system instability problems do: Remove and reinstall the various pieces of software involved to make sure something didn't go wrong during installation. Double check your system for viruses, and look in the System Event Log for any indication there are hardware problems. You could even take the video card back to where you bought it and ask for a new one.
Best of luck to you in getting this worked out!

Charlie Choc Jun 15, 2010 4:53 PM (in response to Missteach)It's even more confusing. ;-)
You can get the latest drivers from NVIDIA.
However, if you suspect a hardware problem you need to go to the OEM whose product contains the NVIDIA chipset. The only way I know of to figure this out is to look at the graphics card itself (or the box it came in if you installed it and kept the box). If the NVIDIA chipset is on a card that was installed when you bought the computer you could start with whoever sold it to you, they should have a build list of all the parts included.
